I stopped caring whatever the article claims as soon as I saw the byline. Devine is a devoted Murdoch culture war ghoul. And the child of a Murdoch acolyte.

As someone who actually knows how to type em-dashes (—), en-dashes (–) and hyphens (-) without needing to look up how. I hate that em-dashes became the coal-mine-canary of LLM writing. Em-dashes are excellent and were too often unnoticed by anyone other than publishing geeks.

It would be easier to replace politicians, senior bureaucrats and executives with AI than any of your examples. Though most serious studies indicate that it's only suitable to be a tool used by a responsible human operator. And that the inaccuracies of AI are an inherent part of the technology.

How about ensuring that 100% of humans have their human rights respected first - and then we can consider extending some form of rights to machines.

Oh, Anthropic (allegedly valued at 350 billion dollars or something ludicrous).

They make the LLM Claude and the much vaunted Claude Code.

They triggered a trillion dollar stock sell off last week by releasing a new product.

They're the AI vending machine folk.

Are there any considerations or mitigations of potential risks of exposing your source to Anthropic?

Is your code base open source or proprietary? Anthropic's context DBs are going to become a honeypot of source.

Are you getting effective results with Claude code? What is it doing for you?

Good laud, why would you provide the students with chatgpt? Don't they have a library and subscriptions to journals? That sounds like a dodgy stitch up.

Do you know anyone paying for chatgpt? I'm yet to meet one. Claude code seems to have a portion of the programmers stumping up cash. The path to profit seems extremely speculative.

Much more likely, open models on smaller distributed systems take the market for people making things using them.

And yet markets treat Altman like he has a source of solar radiation emanating from his posterior. Are they all high and drunk?

One year of their repayment for the deal they've signed with Oracle is said to be over ten billion more than Microsoft Azure's annual revenue. Seems like the US economy is soaring on the most outrageous hail-mary play in extra time.

And the bet is insane. OpenAI has to become the most profitable company in history in the next 18-24 months, from a start of not having a profitable product.

And unlike the industrial revolution, the US AI craze is predicted on trying to make 5-6 giant proprietary steam engines to serve the whole world - which is very unlikely to be a sustainable bet. Meanwhile China is open sourcing and saying 'go make railways'.

It has all been done before and it's much easier now than it was then. The 'ease' of Reddit, Discord, Facebook, Twitter ... is poison like a diet of only junk food is poison. We don't get to choose the world we get. We just get the chances we have to make it the best we can.

Decentraise everything. We didn't use these colossal mega piles until quite recently. Online community thrived on forums, bbs, and other groups and platforms before. Host elsewhere. Matrix for instance seems basically impossible to censor.

We've got to move to get all communications and organising off US tech infrastructure.
