The Mega Group (originally called the “Study Group”) was an informal gathering of the United States’ most affluent and influential Jewish leaders. It was founded in 1991 by Les Wexner and Charles Bronfman and met twice a year to discuss philanthropy, Jewish education, and public‑policy issues.

Last night the people of LA rose up and stormed the concentration camp in their city. They pushed back the fascist gestapo forces and barricaded the doors in the face of an onslaught of tear gas and pepper spray.

But when I asked an organizer what they wanted to see out of press coverage, they told me they wanted people to see the beautiful things they are building here, and not just the worst stories of the worst of ICE's crimes.

What people are doing here is beautiful. It's a tragic beauty, but a real one

I don't want to paint a rosy picture, because it's a city under siege. People are being abducted all the time. One person told me about watching 1-2 abductions a day, just in her own work following ICE.

Another friend put it to me like this: "ICE has made the classic Nazi mistake. They've invaded a winter people in the winter."

Another person put it: "we're Minnesotans. We're excited to get out our real winter gear out of the box for the year."

He was an audio engineer whose kid went to school in the area. No way in hell was he going to let anyone come for the kids on his watch.

Today I talked with a 76 year old who'd been standing in the cold for hours guarding her neighbors. I was getting kind of chilly, even in the new winter gear i bought for this trip (and I live in the goddam mountains myself).

She didn't even have a hat on.

Before I came, I asked a local friend if the cold (it's going to be -20 or so in the coming days) would stop people from coming out. "No, we'll be there. It's ICE who can't handle it."

It's genuinely a leaderless (or leaderful) movement, decentralized in a way that the state is absolutely unequipped to handle. There are a few basic skills involved, and so people teach each other those skills, and people are collectively refining them.

I have been actively involved in protest movements for 24 years. I have never seen anything approaching this scale. Minneapolis is not accepting what's happening here. ICE fucking murdered a woman for participating in this, and all that did is bring out more people, from more walks of life.

Half the street corners around here have people--from every walk of life, including republicans--standing guard to watch for suspicious vehicles, which are reported to a robust and entirely decentralized network that tracks ICE vehicles and mobilizes responders.

I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

I got in late last night. First thing this morning, I saw cars following an ice vehicle down the street, honking at it.

Later, we didn't drive more than three blocks before we found people defending a childcare facility. (The idea that people have to defend a childcare facility... let that sink in)

Why do you think the regime uses troll farms that participate in attack campaigns and try to embarrass or humiliate or threaten people who post anything opposing the regime? They want to train US to self censor. They want us to avoid making that post, because we don’t want to be attacked.

Self‑censorship – the voluntary suppression of thoughts or speech because the cost of being heard is too high.

Turns fear into a daily habit; people stop even thinking about protest. Or speaking out. People may be scared to post certain things online.

US speaking out and making a VISIBLE show of this regime not being supported is bad for them. Exposing them to people in our communities who don’t watch news or avoid politics and may not be aware is BAD for them. They want you scared and silent. When you protest in your community, that’s VISIBLE.

Preference‑falsification – people publicly express support for the regime while privately opposing it.

Creates a “silent majority” that appears loyal, discouraging anyone who might speak out.

Why are there so many bot farms and paid influencers trying to manufacture support for the regime? Think.

Here are some of the psychological tools you and I and all of us are going to have to be aware of and push past. Being aware is the first step. If you understand what they are doing and how it works, you can help defend against it.

This regime is ALREADY doing a lot of what people are scared of potentially happening. The elections are 10 months away. This regime will do the bad things and make up the fake excuses regardless if you give them any or not. This kind of narrative is fear based.

If you are scared and falling into this trap, I am not trying to make you feel bad. You are human. It is basic psychology. They know this and they use it against you. The media ecosphere, propaganda network, bot farms and the algorithms are here to do just that.

The Insurrection Act lets the president federalize the National Guard or deploy troops to restore order, but it does not grant authority to suspend elections. Any such suspension would be ultra vires (beyond the scope of the law) and highly illegal.

Courts have repeatedly emphasized that constitutional rights—including the right to vote—remain in effect even during emergencies. The Supreme Court has struck down attempts to replace civilian courts with military tribunals (Ex parte Milligan, 1866).

The U.S. Constitution contains no clause that allows a president or governor to suspend elections by declaring martial law. Any change to election timing would have to come from Congress or a state legislature, not from a military order.

I’m sorry everyone. It needs to be said. If you are one of the accounts on here telling people that they need to obey in advance because you are scared of martial law and elections being canceled, the psychological warfare that authoritarians use is working on you. Fear is psychologically powerful 🧵
