Tragic vehicle accident takes an NWS office offline Looking at how the NWS offices back each other up. Severe weather and flash flooding in the south central US next couple of days.

A horrific accident early Saturday morning left a car in the side of an NWS office and the office relying on the NWS service backup system. Service backup is important in situations like this - but also is being increasingly used due to NWS staffing and infrastructure issues. tinyurl.com/4txuyhbz

The CSSL/NTP assisted the US National Weather Service (NWS) with their upgrading of the official rating of the June 2025 Enderlin, ND tornado from EF3 to EF5.

Announced by the NWS today, it’s the first EF5-rated tornado in the US since 2013.

Yet I was told the plan is for four radar panels that do not spend, which would just lead to slightly lower beam width at the edge of the panel panels

To an extent we can. Tech like phased array uses antennas to direct beams to scan elevations rather than having a moving antenna drive scanning
