@prisonculture.bsky.social and I have been encouraging people to read chapter six of our book, Let This Radicalize You, which deals with the question of "violence" in social movements. We have decided to share the chapter publicly, to offer some context and grounding for the current conversation.

Every flashbang could instead be a meal for a poor kid. Every hotel room for a National Guardsman deployed to fire at our neighbors could house a homeless vet. A ton of the perceived middle class lifestyle is about to be affected. People who thought they were doing well and won’t be affected are going to have actual poverty problems. Your kids can’t get what they want. You can’t rely on an employer to take care of you. You can’t afford loans.
