Keep in mind again that most apps have the ability to monetize on top of Reddit's data while they don't necessarily share this profit with Reddit.
It's pure $ grabing..
Hopefully a solution will be made for all parties.

the truth is probably a mix of both + publicity.
the trends Musk established are being followed by other big tech - mass layoffs, paywalled API, tech stack revamp, more reliance on AI, etc.

it's inevitable.
Reddit will not back down on sweet $ since google, apple, microsoft & co. use their data to train their algos for free (just like they did with Twitter until recently) and monetize that same data.
