This arcade cabinet has new code with operator functionality (it was commissioned by an upcoming Barcade), but additionally I doubled the number of Tempest levels. This includes the "open" levels that don't loop. A bit of "open" level code crashed when advancing waves, but only in 2p-linked. 🐛

It wouldn't be California Extreme without discovering a crash bug on VCTR-SCTR at 11:30pm the night before the show, running to my hotel room to squash it on my laptop, and racing back down to test it on the cabinet. Good times! #CAX2025

Jim and I disagree on some things too, but he's a pretty smart dude and I was hoping that if you name some specific things that haven't changed, maybe you'd find common ground!

@oldskool.org makes sense to me, but I could also see where you're making a valid point too. Maybe the problem is you're being too vague? What specifically hasn't changed?

The same trailer on their own site does not have black bars and plays full height, and the YouTube one is watermarked so it's not the same render. Can you think of a reason you'd want to include black bars today, in the digital world, on YouTube or elsewhere?

Is there any practical reason besides pure laziness that companies like @netflix.com render their trailers for YouTube with black bars? It's not VHS anymore, guys. Modern players maintain aspect ratio, and all it does is shrink the video on ultra widescreen displays and add noisy gray bars.

I watched the last one last night in prep and realized I'd never seen it. So many chases and stunt scenes. I know "Cruise does his own stunts" is a thing (and partially true), but it's not what I watch MI for. I watch to be surprised by tactical twists and Hunt being the smartest guy in the room.

This is so app-dependent. There are a hundred little things that devs need to remember (and I'm sure you know all of them). Generally, with snap rotation, linear velocity. and no camera roll, I'm good. No vignette needed. So maybe a 2?
