This kind of smart, walkable, mixed-use urbanism is illegal to build in most American cities.

a football player carries the ball to the 49 yard line, then the 50 yard line. however, after taking another step forward, he finds to his astonishment that he is once again at the 49 yard line. but how can this be? this is the grand riddle of football

The vast majority of laws don’t require dedicated shock troops to enforce. Both immigration and labor law are subject to civil enforcement. Why does the former require armed police of any sort to enforce and the latter doesn’t? The message is easy as that.

THE COURT: I don't understand why you would do that.
What you're saying is if there is a decision that exists, it's
an unreported decision. It exists only with a Lexis cite or Westlaw cite because there's no reporter that cites it. Are
you suggesting that what you wanted to do is find some other
case citing that case?
MR. FELDMAN: Which I would do.
THE COURT: Why would you do that? It doesn't tell
you what the case says. That tells you what some other court
thought the case said, but that's not a legitimate way of cite
checking or doing research.
MR. FELDMAN: Absolutely. It's definitely not. I
would parse that out.
THE COURT: You keep saying "parse that out." I find
that interesting, sir. Go ahead and parse that, but then you
are going to explain to me how you put together the actual
brief in support of your motion to dismiss in this case.

The Court's other problem with Mr. Feldman's discussion of the Response merits only a footnote. Mr. Feldman claims to have written every word in the document other than quotes or paraphrases (Tr. 69), but the Court struggles to believe him. Mr. Feldman's written submissions are pockmarked with grammatical errors. The Response, by contrast, has far fewer grammatical issues than his other submissions, and has a tone unlike any of his other submissions.

Do you know how mad a judge has to be to call out your grammatical errors

Trove Of Emails About Pedophilia Reignites Nation’s Love Of Reading WASHINGTONβ€”Saying the millions of documents had restored a pleasure they lost long ago, Americans nationwide said Thursday that the recently released trove of emails connected with disgraced financier...

β€œThe U.S. Army brought the leading citizens of Ohrdruf to tour the facility, which turned out to be part of the Buchenwald network of concentration camps. A U.S Army colonel told the German civilians who viewed the scenes that they were to blame. One of the Germans replied that what happened in the camp was 'done by a few people,’ and β€˜you cannot blame us all.’ And the American, who could have been any one of our grandfathers, said 'This was done by those that the German people chose to lead them, and all are responsible.'"

"The morning after the tour, the Mayor of Ohrdruf killed himself. And maybe he did not know the full extent of the outrages that were committed in his community, but he knew enough. And we don't know exactly how ICE will use this warehouse. But we know enough. I ask you to consider what the Mayor of Ordruf might have thought before he died. Maybe he felt like a victim. He might have thought 'How is this my fault? I have no jurisdiction over this.' Maybe he would have said, 'This site was not subject to local zoning, what could I do?' But I think, when he reflected on the suffering that occurred at this camp, just outside of town, that those words would have sounded hollow even to him. Because in his heart he knew, as we do, that we are all responsible for what happens in our community.”

A resident named Walter calmly took the mic and recounted an April 9, 1945 newspaper clipping about the liberation of the Ohrdruf concentration camp...

The ownership class see us all as sources of value-producing labor they want to exploit. The nice thing is that if we all see ourselves that way too, we can act on our shared interest as workers and beat their asses.

A silver-colored skipjack herring along rocks in shallow water.

Good morning! It is February 3rd in the United Socialist States of America.

Today we commemorate the Celebration of the Southwest. Visit our deserts and canyons!

We celebrate the skipjack herring, alosa chrysocloris.

Gertrude Stein was born this day in 1874; Al Lewis died today in 2006.

Very late but I made this tonight (with many substitutions based on what I had on hand) and it's great, the lemon juice at the end really brings it all together.
