Reading two novels - one fairly bad, one brilliant. Trying to parse it: the amateur one has up to three fairly trite similes per paragraph. Contrast with this single simile, rich with meaning, from the brilliant one (The English Patient).

I am reading two novels simultaneously that are each, at times, confusing - but one is absolutely intoxicating & delicious and the other is...MEH.
