Seeing a number of good reviews coming in for SKETCH, but I'm having a really hard time getting over the Angel Studios of it all (a/k/a the faith-based distributor who most famously released SOUND OF FREEDOM). JCS at the Hollywood Bowl was a—fittingly—religious experience. Incredible cast, terrific production, Cynthia Erivo absolutely shaking the earth to its foundations with “Gethsemane”. I’ll remember this forever.

Standing up for the smallest of minorities is important because when you accept the premise that one group are expendable because small or ‘insignificant’, you have accepted the idea of the expendability of human life in general, and the enemy will use your acquiescence to pick off yet more.

Beyond the ethical issues (it's bad!) and frustrations over Mankiewicz shilling for it (that sucks!), when you go look at actual clips of this thing, it looks like utter dogshit. All the texture of film and intentionality in framing gone and replaced by smoothed-over faces and AI slop backgrounds.

There’s a real “Reddit Atheists” quality to people who continue to harp on how AVATAR left no cultural footprint even after two movies that have collectively grossed over $5 billion and a wildly popular theme park land.

Insane that after billions of dollars, hundreds of jobs lost, dozens of canned projects, and five years of grief, the ultimate net result of the whole Warner Bros. Discovery debacle is that Discovery now owns CNN.

It was all for nothing. All the canned projects, people laid off, countless hours of work and films and shows thrown away. And the end result was just "Yeah we're back to where we were before it began."

This is going to be somebody's Joker origin story moment.
