#5 - Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island

I’ve played this hundreds of times. I can confidently say this is my singular favorite video game ever made. From level design, to music, to art design, to mechanics, it’s as perfect as a video game can get in my eyes.

My final sendoff to Switch 1.

I always try to fit my thoughts into one post, but I absolutely cannot leave out the soundtrack. Pieces that range from absolute bops to some of the most powerfully emotional pieces of music I’ve ever heard. I would be remiss not to shout that out as well.

#4 - Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

9/10

Somehow exceeded my high expectations. I have my critiques, namely in exploration, but a powerful story with engaging combat and some of the most incredible acting in gaming. Jennifer English deserves all the flowers for this one. A game I’ll hold very dear.

#3 - Split Fiction

8/10

My first 2025-released game completed! Played with @lankydragoon.bsky.social. Some incredibly fun & unique gameplay sections carried a story that ultimately fell a bit flat for me. While it still had some heart, the characters and especially their dialogue felt uninspired.

#2 - Metaphor: ReFantazio

9/10

What a phenomenal game. Entirely fantastic cast of characters, compelling villain, and a heartfelt story that only gets better as it goes. A great iteration of the Persona gameplay. Fidelity could be better, but a strong art style cements this world as one of beauty.

#1 - Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus

I “get” why this game reviewed well. However, I never felt comfortable in combat. Even on a lower difficulty, it had annoying spikes. Probably just needed to git gud.
