Seriously though, this sucks. Most of the commission requests I've gotten haven't been through social media or email, but straight through Discord. Quite a few features are going to be disabled for those who don't want to have their ID scanned...

and a large chunk of people aren't gonna just give over their ID to Discord (especially when they recently had a data breach). Some people might say that most people won't mind not having access to NSFW content but... Remember what happened to Tumblr?

A lot of people are going to leave and jump ship, and while there are already several Discord alternatives it will probably be a good while before people settle on one as the main replacement (like Discord was for Skype).

I know I'm not the only artist who gets a lot of business from Discord contacts. This is gonna affect a lot of freelance artists and people in general and it's not gonna be fixed right away.

A template for emailing discord in regards to a negative discord policy that will require face/government ID use Hello, I am reaching out regarding the new age verification policy that will supposedly begin rolling out next month I need to make my opinion clear because there is still time to roll back this ridiculous and dangerous age verification method. This is new policy will absolutely not keep children safe but will expose nearly all users identifying information in an inevitable data breach and it will force people to LEAVE THE DISCORD PLATFORM PERMANENTLY We all know that these policing decisions are always hidden(terribly) under the guise of protecting children. Parents ALREADY have a way to restrict the manner in which they deem online access safe for their individual children. Forcing people to show their face and/or government issued ID is enabling the rise of our biometrics being used to track our every moments and the fact that Discord folded so quickly in this decision reinforces that our data was merely dollar signs to begin with Discord is replaceable, just as Skype was, just as AIM just as Pinterest when they filled their platform with AI generated slop, just as Tumblr when they decided to police their platform against adult content, and just as any platform that so much as breathes in the wrong direction or takes the side of billionaires over the people There is still time to retract this disgusting decision and show that Discord values its users over money and bending at the knee to fascism. Age verification using biometrics is dangerous and WHEN, not if, people have their biometrics stolen, sold, and used to track, their every movement, they will rightfully blame you and Discord will be just another unused platform in the ocean of companies that shot themselves in the foot. Please reach out to me ASAP with some update on this before the boycotts spread too far as there is still time to roll this disgusting breach of our trust back

There is not a single social platform I am invested enough in to give them my government ID. I will literally up and move anywhere else, and if there's nowhere else, I will simply go offline. These companies really overestimate their value.
