The IPCC (world experts) would disagree: The IPCC views nuclear energy as a necessary low-carbon source to meet climate goals,... pathways to achieve targets rely on a substantial increase in nuclear energy, with projections calling for the global capacity to nearly double by 2050.

What a weird post, are you saying that nuclear doesn't exist? China currently operates 58 nuclear reactors and is building 44 more, totaling 102 facilities. At this pace, it will surpass all other nations to become the world's top nuclear power operator by 2030. They can build them on shed/budget.

Ug. Any electric car can run on power from a nuclear plant. Sure, nuclear is crazy to build, but it's our planet at stake and we need to get off fossil now. . . nuclear needs to be part of that solution if you consider all factors.

Ug. Nuclear is not cheap or easy, but I'm advocating for saving our planet. It would take decades to build the number of plants we need and there are only a few facilities in the world that can make some parts. I'm sure you are well intentioned, but it's like being tackled by your own teammate.

How does the land use of different electricity sources compare? All energy production takes up land, but which sources use the most land, and which use it most efficiently?

Do the math on how much land it would take to replace all the fossil. Take into consideration the capacity factors of the various sources.

Nuclear has the highest cap fac of any energy source producing reliable, secure pwr more than 92% of the time in 2024. Thatโ€™s ~2X coal (42.36%) or nat gas (59.9%) that are used more flexibly to meet changing grid demands and ~3 times more than wind (34.3%) and solar (23.4%). (per energy - dot -gov)

Nuclear Energy Explore global data on nuclear energy production and the safety of nuclear technologies.

Lots of data here, review some facts. . . safe, low carbon foot print, reliable, highest cap factor, smallest land footprint.

Not that simple, if you look at capacity factor, lifespan, land footprint, siting restrictions (need sun for solar, wind for wind, and you need to be able to get the electricity to the pop ctrs), then nuclear makes the most sense. I'm for anything but fossil, but the only real solution is nuclear.

That would divorce us from the middle east and do a lot to end the FF era. Progressive carbon tax to pay for it. Make billionaires pay for their outrageous carbon footprints. Fund the R&D for geo or fusion, whatever the next energy steps need to be.

It takes ~272 AP-1000 nuclear plants to eliminate all fossil elect generation in the US. At a cost of ~3.9B per plant (cheapest one built so far), that would cost ~1.06 Trillion dollars. We spent ~6.4 - 8T on the global war on terror. We will spend ~2.5-3T in the 5 yrs on AI to make clime chg worse.

Unfortunately, I think coral reefs are the walking dead. Our (my wife and I) coverage went up 236%. Luckily my wife turns 65 in Feb, so she will be going on Medicare. The richest country in the world and we need to worry so much about health care. I've been to countries with universal HC & the reduction in stress not worrying about it is remarkable.

My wife is applying for social security. . . we both reviewed our income as rec by SSA. It struck me that Trump accumulated 511 times more wealth in his 11 months in office than my wife and I combined over a lifetime. I have a BS ME, Navy sub officer, wife art teacher w/ masters degree. So corrupt!

Pardons. .. we definitely need some guard rails on pardons: www.citizensforethics.org/reports-inve... Add it to the list of stuff of "norms" that need to be laws because Americans can't be trusted to not elect a sociopath, narcissist, criminal, child molester, traitor, and also super-tacky.

Trump is a malignant narcissist, like Hitler, so his reaction is shocking, but not surprising. The people helping the fallen sold their souls to support our little Hitler that. They have compassion, yet support the crimes against our people and senselessly cutting life-saving aid to other countries.
