Our chute was an open fall through a hole in a drawer into a hamper below. This had huge potential for inter-floor projectile battles. Instead of dropping the dirty socks straight down, you could angle them to hit the guy sitting on the couch a few feet to the side of the hamper.

Grew up with a laundry chute and 100% can confirm. Highlight of my childhood home.

I think part of What's Going On with billionaires is that the daily friction of interacting with normal people is part of what anchors people to the real world, and once you have enough money to buy your way out of the friction you can knock down a load-bearing column propping up your sanity.

I don't know how to think about it! So much of my parenting has been focused on encouraging them to build what feel like transferable human skills—reading, critical thinking, analytical discipline, etc. But it feels like we're living a mass retreat from valuing *humans* using/needing those?
