Power Market Quant. Optimizing Storage at Habitat Energy. Opinions my own
#EnergySky
03.02.2025 16:33 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Iβm hiring a fundamentals analyst to help with everything from dispatch limits/price elasticity to FTRs and forward curves. In the last year Habitat has grown from operating 50MW of storage to over 1GW in ERCOT alone with more growth on the way! Pls reach out!

Looks like damage is likely to be minimal compared to what a Tsunami could bring
05.12.2024 19:29 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0That's a shame - Enron level recklessness in the crypto market is precisely what the world needs right now π
03.12.2024 12:48 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Ummm is this real? Is Enron back? Anyone know anything about this? #EnergySky
01.12.2024 00:35 β π 1 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Was not aware of the AS extension. Will have to check that out. I thought I saw some people talking about energy offer curves vs marginal cost dispatch a few weeks back but never followed up on where it went
23.11.2024 23:50 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Just playing around with it for now. Looking to build out a versatile DCOPF for a number of things (testing nodal price elasticity, future AS price shape, CRRs, contract pricing, etc). The ability to model AS price is a huge lift over a PyPSA
23.11.2024 22:05 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Was not aware of integration with Sienna. Will definitely be on the lookout for it! Thanks!
23.11.2024 21:21 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Love that GenX has a DCOPF module now! Any plans to have energy offer curves replace marginal cost based dispatch? Batteries now marginal unit more than half of SCED intervals and its tough to capture their behavior without them
23.11.2024 19:44 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0PyPSA is great- also has a PyPSA-USA branch now. Only major thing itβs missing is that dispatch is based on marginal cost vs being able to upload unit specific energy offer curves. Would also help the way it handles storage. Would love to see that added
22.11.2024 17:41 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0SCED interval is 5 min
18.11.2024 01:02 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0We have an alert system that shoots emails on >40% move on the next SCED interval. Quite annoying when prices are bouncing around 0
18.11.2024 00:15 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I also think it's worth considering that offer caps may actually operate like offer targets and removing them could lead to lower prices

In case anyone was wondering it appears Sunday afternoons in November are the new summer 2023

This is crazy - PS2 with Star Wars Battlefront was obviously the superior system
17.11.2024 00:40 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Would love to be! Thanks!
17.11.2024 00:32 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0EOS has very large backlog and is in the process of finishing it's fully automated manufacturing line. Next 2-3 quarters will be very interesting to watch
15.11.2024 00:34 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0How does the representative days handle SoC management? Is there just an assumption that each day starts at 50%? We've used representative weeks before but run into problems with computation time
15.11.2024 00:30 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Didn't realize on first glance which nodes these were. All to familiar with ALP_BES and it's congestion... Can this graph be made with free version of gridstatus? Will want to extend the time horizon and use internally
15.11.2024 00:26 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Big reason why benchmarking battery performance is non-trival - still doesn't even touch on nodal dynamics + battery size/price elasticity. And don't get me started on re-supply and SASM costs not being in 60 day data

People arenβt ready for the next ELCC release in NYISO
11.11.2024 17:54 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The important thing here isnβt that the TB4 is an effective hedge - itβs not. What matters is the framework shift from 10-15 year insurance/ revenue floors to hedges that can be actively managed #EnergySky ππ‘
11.11.2024 16:29 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0ICE recently announced they are adding TB4 futures to help mirror the exposure that battery assets are carrying. I bet the revenue floors that have financed batteries until now may disappear as the asset class becomes better understood and more effective hedges become available #EnergySky ππ‘
11.11.2024 14:36 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 0 π 2My guess is we see the offer cap/ORDC curve get re-raised. Lots of struggling gas this year in down market + solar suppressing midday prices. Also lots more wind solar storage. Especially storage. Volatility isnβt leaving ERCOT anytime soon.
11.11.2024 03:04 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Ya the someone just pressing and un-pressing the ECRS button isnβt super precise
11.11.2024 01:37 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Looks like it might have been early ECRS recall thatβs sent price to 5000. Happened in September too
11.11.2024 01:29 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0ππ‘
11.11.2024 01:18 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Just ERCOT doing ERCOT things on this calm Sunday evening
11.11.2024 01:17 β π 23 π 4 π¬ 4 π 2Also interesting to note the slight uptick in AS prices after the peak as the increased solar is shifting net load peak a touch later in the day
11.11.2024 00:14 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0AS saturation in ERCOT is getting crazy. Despite the higher effective net load and steeper ramp this October (shout-out solar) AS prices were down between 50-70% YoY. This is with DA price only down ~15%. Expect to see batteries cycling more and start engaging in DA energy ππ‘ #EnergySky
