You know what's somewhat uncool? When you write a new book & within a couple hours of the release someone posts a mediocre review b/c they find the title misleading & also spoil the plot.

Please don't do this.

It's pup day for KENTUCKY DRAGON & THE GLASS-FACE MAN!

'So slowly, slowly she got up
And slowly she drew nigh him
And the only words to him did say
"Young man, I think you're dying"'

In conspiracy world, there's now a supposedly leaked NASA memo that says #3IATLAS has been changing speed & course correcting & is ET; in theorizing world, a new study found Nickel & Cyanide w/o Iron. As Avi Loeb pointed out, this is *very* rare in a comet but not in industry...

The First Webb Telescope Observations of 3I/ATLAS A few seconds before my flight to Copenhagen lifted off the ground at Boston’s Logan airport, I received an email with the paper reporting…

Well, well, well: the first JWST data on 3I/ATLAS are in & the findings ... basically tell us what we already know. This object isn't behaving: no tail, surrounded by a layer of CO2 & very large (10-46 km diameter, depending on how reflective it is).

3I/ATLAS is Large and Releases Carbon Dioxide (CO2) The team of NASA’s SPHEREx space observatory just reported tantalizing new data on the interstellar object 3I/ATLAS (accessible here). The…

New report on #3IATLAS from Aug 8-12 (not JWST data yet) shows CO2 but no water emissions or tail. It's also potentially bigger than it should be (23 km radius).

Basically, it still can't be confirmed as a comet or ... *something else* (DUM-DUM-DUM)

We've got ppl supposedly leaking "classified" JWST images of 3I/ATLAS, Avi Loeb gearing everybody up for first contact & the scientific community getting more & more agitated at any suggestion it might not be a comet.

The truth is out there, folks.

Curiouser and curiouser: 3I/ATLAS is looking more like a very red "type-D asteroid," according to observations from the Seimei/TriCCS observatory in Japan (Oumuamua was also red). Unlike Oumuamua, stable brightness (not tumbling)

Could be rock or metal

Ppl need to stop getting so flustered by every thought experiment Avi Loeb throws out there re: 3I/ATLAS

My read: the purpose of his write ups is to lay the groundwork for a more open mind & dialogue when/as new surveys discover many more interstellar objects soon

Not sure why it's insanely unlikely 3I/ATLAS might be an alien object.

We've literally only ever seen 3 interstellar objects & 1 (Oumuamua) behaved strangely. The idea that interstellar objects are natural by default needs to be proven, just as much as the alternative.

When asked to do a deep dive analysis on 3I/ATLAS, #ChatGPT concluded it's 99% likely to be a comet.

HOWEVER, it also flagged signals to watch for, like non-gravitational acceleration. When I pointed out that Oumuamua's non-g/a didn't change scientists' minds, it said this:

Agree w him or not, Avi Loeb deserves a drink for keeping this interesting

So, 3I/ATLAS's sun-facing particle stream w no visible outgassing/tail, is it: (a) rare dust from an unusually large rock, or (b) an early warning system for asteroid impacts?

Avi Loeb comes out swinging again re: 3I/ATLAS, refuting 2 recent claims of water in the object

I referenced 1 of these yesterday, but I'm not at all qualified to assess the statistical data. Bottomline: water = comet; no agreement

No JWST data yet

3I/ATLAS looking more comet-ish w a new paper just submitted: water detected. It's still a bit strange, though, because at this distance seeing water is extremely rare & it also suggests the surface is much more (20% vs 3-5%) active than typical comets
