Nilay Patel knows a hell of a lot more about online platforms and how they should work than I do. But I think that canning a hundred really talented people and pissing off their fans is not something a well-designed website or app is going to fix. You've got that stink on you forever.

I absolutely would trust Nilay to build a good website. But SBN's brand has been completely set on fire over the last decade. Wizbang technology can't help you get around the fact that a social network requires people making posts other people want to read.

I recognize that I'm not an unbiased source here, and I legitimately wish Nilay and his colleagues luck...but I think it would be difficult to argue that SBN's problems over the last few years were primarily because their technical platform was insufficiently built to be a next-gen social platform
