Milwaukee Gets Its Wish, City Can Tow All Reckless Drivers Loopholes made prior policies "somewhat useless."

In Milwaukee, police will now be able to impound any vehicle driven recklessly.

City Alderman: β€œIt’s a two-ton weapon. We should look at this the same way we look at firearms. Let’s get as many of them off the street as possible.”

An ICE agent, who is being arrested for drunk driving and nearly killing his little kids & others, tries to stop the arrest by racially profiling the officers arresting him. Amazing to watch the courtesy given to him as he is belligerent and uncooperative

Totally agree- I think sharing with wider audience these hard limitations by FHWA they can put energy into advocating for a change. MUTCD is now required to be updated every 2 years (based on advocates highlighting it had been too long between 2009 update and 2024)

Unfortunately us standards require farside placement for primary signal heads. Agencies *could add supplemental signals near side but they would be extra

No. 1 response from kids on how to get them off their phone? Freedom to play in their neighborhood.

What's holding them back?

Dangerous streets prevent parents from releasing their kids.

Solution: safe streets for children.

It’s been 4-years since the Mass Ave Bridge added separated bike lanes. Despite initial opposition, it’s been a massive success for bikers, drivers & pedestrians.

Fall 2023 data saw an avg of 6,160 bikes crossing the bridge, a 51% increase. Vehicle travel times remain unchanged.

quote from Dunleavy "Some Lawmakers don't seem to care." photo clip from ADN article about the special session. a word bubble "2nd bout of cancer treatment #Blessed Healthcare for me not for thee"

screenshot from Sen. Dubar's letter of Dunleavy's past session vetoes:
In addition to the education funding, Dunleavy’s vetoes included the following:

β€’ $1 million for Rural Public Radio funding

β€’ $140k to the Alaska Legal Services which provides legal services to low-income Alaskans, and is the state’s largest provider of civil legal services to survivors of domestic violence

β€’ $750k for Re-entry housing, despite the proven impacts on recidivism

β€’ $5 million for the Alaska Native Science and Education Program

β€’ $3.5 million for Head Start, a program with many kids in my district

β€’ $500k for Crisis Now Continuum of Care Grants, a program desperately needed to reduce mental health and homelessness impacts in Anchorage

β€’ $550k to produce a State of Alaska Police Policy Manual

β€’ $1.2 million for workforce development

β€’ $35 million in University of Alaska capital projects

The full list of vetoes are available here.

These vetoes are incredibly disappointing. They fail to invest in Alaska’s future and address ongoing issues many of us heard about throughout session. We cannot reverse Alaska’s population decline, particularly in our working-age residents and those with young children, if we are cutting funding for education, child care, and critical programs for improving our economy and quality of life. Personally, I am in support of overriding many of the vetoes and hope enough of my colleagues feel the same.

Pretty rich of Dunleavy to accuse others of "not caring" for children. πŸ€• πŸ₯ How many Alaskans are suffering from his funding cuts these past 7 years?! for services across the state?!

#Anchorage could have cool urban connections too! We don’t need to settle for stressful, Soviet-era sidewalks

We’ve been asking for safer, more connected non-motorized infrastructure.

PROWAG requires the push button within 10’ of the curb ramp landing. Engineers take this quite literally and there’s never the thought that perhaps the signals should just automatically recall ped phases so beg buttons wouldn’t be necessary?
