This is because I stopped paying for a family plan.

I like to say "banned from [context]" because if I say it's been banned from a reading list, banned from displays, banned from author visits, banned from the children's section etc. then yes I mean ENTIRELY disallowed from that place it would otherwise be.

My biggest problem with conducting interviews is that my handwriting goes on record.

The new coalition is expanding rapidly. More to come once we get a new website, mailing list etc going. But we're aiming hard at the short legislative session coming up without waiting on all that.

Nearly 50 people at a library hosted discussion for freedom to read, despite the snow last night that led to late openings. Authors, librarians, school staff, state politicians, grandparents, so many passionate people!

The magic is that all these pockets of people are coming together on organizing.

It's nice when people tell me they're anti-censorship, but I've seen too many librarians concede to censorship as soon as it's actually on their watch, then absolve themselves as not doing censorship.

Probably part of the whole "good person" problem.

Yeah, I am REALLY fed up with the whole "It's a good thing to be banned!" and "Controversy sells!" Sure, the controversy sells when the whole world knows about Maus, but when MY book is banned, no one knows and I just get called a pedophile by a bunch of clueless Neanderthal fuckos for my troubles.

AS A FAN OF THE ONION this is a good theory but i can officially say that i have never worked there. this would contradict statement that i have never had a day job, just been artist my whole life. as fun as onion would be that would still be a job in an office. HOWEVER i do like this theory

I often think about how if we designed job interviews to be more fair to autistic people, almost everyone else would have less trauma about them too.

Long story. I often see this guy walking his kids to school & he's always carrying a mug of coffee & he's got his dog on a leash tied to his waist & it makes me irrationally angry. Just this morning, made me angry. "Just leave your coffee at home!" I'd think. Keep in mind I'd never see him drink it.

If you live in Albuquerque, please go vote for Keller in the runoff even if you didn't in the general (I didn't).

He's lacking in some important areas but his White supremacist opponent will cause much more harm. It matters a lot.

I've come around to the idea that GenAI can be incredibly useful for guess and check.

But if you can't or don't check effectively, then it's still just guess.

I'm a little angry at the person who prevented me from getting him help months ago out of fear of euthanizing when it would have been fine. But she has her own struggles.

He came over to sniff me once at the start and then just shivered a lot, laid down, and wouldn't get back up despite me sitting outside the kennel talking to him for a long time. I think he's injured/sick enough to have given up.

I didn't expect to be crying at the shelter today. Sorry y'all.

I went in this morning with intention to adopt, but he's in FAR worse shape than I realized. Shivering, shut down, and already deemed "unadoptable."

Senior staff is meeting today about cases and they may sedate him for examination. They know I'm interested and willing to do a lot, but looks bad.

All of the other dogs heard a sound from inside and ran in, but he stayed outside watching me leave after I talked to him for a bit. Oh buddy!

We'll have to see if he gets along with my dog (both Australian cattledogs) and us humans, but if so it'll be a cool origin story that he kept visiting a library and got adopted by a librarian there. πŸ“š

Here's me petting him at the front entrance in October.

So the stray dog who has been walking into the library all year following a few different homeless folks finally got nabbed by animal welfare. I've been watching specifically for him. Went to visit him today. They still need to go through medical but they have my info for fostering interest. πŸ•

This year's Advent of Code has begun. If you're unfamiliar, it's a new Christmas themed problem per day that you solve through coding in any way you like, because you submit a solution based on individualized input. Great way to learn.

In terms of staff time and storage, it's gotten out of hand. It's inappropriate to our jobs BUT it's a community need. I'm worried that asking about some other solution will only accomplish us being told to stop doing it without arranging a substitute.
