tbh i've not heard this. i typically hear people answer with "all of them" / "everything".

it makes no sense in the sense that "what items on the menu do you want" is, strictly speaking, not a question that seeks a yes/no answer. this is not the case with alex and bob above because you can read it as a logical or question.

i demand explanations because dan's reply makes no sense

it annoys me when i see people do it incorrectly. for example, they'd write something like

charlie: "what item on this menu do you want to eat?"

dan: "yes"

to say that dan wants everything on the menu.

that's not how the "yes" joke works. this reply by dan doesn't make any sense, unlike bob's.

you know that thing on the internet when we have a situation like

alex: "do you want to eat pizza or ice cream?"

bob: "yes"

the joke here is that bob treats alex's "or" as a logical ∨ instead of answering the question

disliking certain adaptations because of "[insert reasons criticising those specific adaptations]" is fine.

disliking adaptations because "iT's NoT eXaCtLy LiKe ThE oRiGiNaL" is stupid and misses the point of (movie) adaptations

and don't get me started on the broadway lovers who hate on movie adaptations because the songs in the movie don't sound exactly like their favourite renditions of the play

i always reserve a special amount of disdain for book readers who hate on movie adaptations because the movies weren't a word-for-word replication of the books
