100% for platform screen doors on the TTC, but also I don’t think they are substitutes. Both would prevent people from falling on the tracks, but platform doors are really more about operational efficiency while crisis workers are more about ride safety and comfort.The TTC really should have both.

If I had a nickel for every time a North American LRT system had two high-floor lines that share a common trunk through downtown, coloured Red and Blue, with a planned/constructed low-floor line that is coloured Green, I would have 15 cents. We spent the morning hanging out with the bison, herd in Riding Mountain National Park. These wild bison are pretty used to people and if you’re lucky, you can hang out with the herd for breakfast. The voice you hear in the background was the bison expert in the park for decades. 🦊🌿🦬

Is there any running bet on what Eglington Crosstown LRT station will have the lowest ridership once it finally opens? It has to be Aga Khan station right? I mean this is some of the worst land use I have seen adjacent to a station, and it'll only be 300m from the actually useful Don Valley station.

I’ve never been, but is there a meaningful difference between Long Beach and Los Angeles? Is there a coherent reason republicans are neutral about the former but hate the latter?

If I remember correctly, I believe that part of the deal CDPQ made with the province when building the REM was that basically all proximate STM/ARTM service was to be rerouted in order to feed the REM. Now the service frequency of those buses might be shit, but they will at least provide transfers

I've always found the idea of making buses free but not rail to be backwards. Free fare would attract a lot more riders, and the marginal increase in operating cost of adding a new rider to a rail system is almost always less than the marginal cost of a new passenger to a bus!

Honestly I agree lol, it just sucks how low the bar is. Toronto has so many cool, vibrant, transit oriented neighbourhoods, it sucks that they seem incapable of making one with a literal blank canvas 🫠

I am v worried that the Port Lands will end up like Boston’s Seaport: both are new developments on the water beside the CBD on former industrial land. It ended up an incredibly soulless neighbourhood with no life, where people mostly drive. And unlike Toronto, at least Seaport has an underground BRT
