Amid Evil was awesome and yeah it’s got automated “souls mode”.

I should have specified that the meter I’m using is on gradient/levels where the higher levels open up combos and if it drops below neutral there are negative consequences.

Still kind of a BFG problem though.

I have a meter/guage that is on a timer and the player must fill up to use powerful combos. It’s the core mechanic, but I feel there might be a better way and players may feel annoyed or fatigued that they must rush to use the ability or they’re wasting it.

What do y’all think about abilities on a timer? Like filling up a meter and can use the ability as much as you want, but it slowly burns away.

As opposed to filling up a meter and each time you use the ability it gets drained a bit.

Maybe a combination?
