There's an eight note rest at the start, so it sounds like the riffs comes in an eight note late. (Thanks Dad Rock Guitar Tabs!)

- Slipping Away: the one reason I almost downgraded this album to 8/10. I find it annoying to listen to; there's something weird with the rhythm. I am really bad at determining what the exact reason is, but when I looked it up, it was easy to spot:

- E5150/Mob Rules: Black Sabbath's best dark ambient synth track serves as an intro for one of their hardest hitting songs.

The bad:
- A lot of the song feel like (great) remakes of H&H songs.
- The art work sucks. I guess it's supposed to be dark and creepy, but it just drab and very brown.

...but then that riff drops like a ten ton hammer.
- Over and Over: every 80's band needs a power ballad and this is one of the best of them.
- The Sign of the Southern Cross: Epic Sabbath at its best.

Otherwise it's very much a sequel, that does same things as Heaven & Hell, only ever so slightly less good.

The good:
- Falling of the Edge of the World: this might be my favourite Sabbath song and riff. It takes a long time to get that riff with an epic power metal intro...

Never change a winning team. Ahcksually… Bill Ward quit because of his alcoholism (I don't think his bandmates putting him on fire helped) and was replaced by Vinny Appice, another American next to RJD.

Op basis van de film, lijkt het of gerst/griesmeel in historisch Japan heel erg het armeluisvoedsel was dat je moest eten als de rijst op was of te duur. Daarom komt het waarschijnlijk terug in al die samurai-films: griesmeel is voor arme boertjes. Maar het is wel grappig.

There's a big Kurosawa retrospective in here in Eye Filmmuseum and after watching several of his movies I can tell you one thing: the man hated gruel with a passion.

No Remorse Diamond Head - song - 2020

Ik heb dus altijd geweten dat Diamond Head een grote inspiratiebron van Metallica is, maar nooit echt naar die band geluisterd. Nu kwam ineens in de automatische mix een Metallica-nummer voorbij dat ik niet kende en merkwaardig swingde. Dus ik check wat het was en het bleek dit.

Zoals je ziet gaat het voor mij tussen Paranoid en Sabbath Bloody Sabbath voor best Ozzy Sabbath-plaat. De eerste is knalt wat meer en betere productie, de tweede is meer afwisselend en avontuurlijk met natuurlijk die fantastische titeltrack.

My vote. And it rocks.

It could've been a bit more varied, but most of the harder hitting funk/soul/African songs I liked seem to have not made it to the final round, e.g. the Mali railways band one.

Trivia:
- Geoff Nicholls joined the band here as keyboard player, although for years he would be credited as 'additional keyboards.'
- They almost killed Bill Ward again! But he doesn't remember it, because of his alcoholism.

- Walk Away sounds most like a Never Say Die!-track, but with the much improved production and RJD's vocals being a much better match for that style, it suddenly works.

The bad:
- Like I said: nothing really , but Lady Evil is typical mid-album track: nice and uptempo, but in between Children of the Sea and Heaven and Hell, it's a bit of a throwaway.

Combine that with RJD's amazing vocals and songwriting that again focuses on what the band is good at: riffs and power and you've got an absolutely amazing album.

The good:
- No truly bad songs here, but the standouts are Children of the Sea, the epic title track and Die Young.

So this is finally once again a Black Sabbath album that has the thick, crunchy sound it should have. Everyone wins, Geezer Butler's bass playing is the main beneficiary.

Now Ozzy is a great singer within his limitations, but RJD is one of the all-time greats of classic rock singing. He also brought along from Rainbow producer Martin Birch, who would go on to produce the classic Iron Maiden albums.

Heaven & Hell Black Sabbath - album - 1980 - 8 songs

Black Sabbath - Heaven and Hell (1980): 10/10

One of the best comeback albums of all time and one of my favourite albums. Black Sabbath had been working on this album with Ozzy for 11 months, when he finally left and was replaced by Rainbow-singer Ronnie James Dio.
