Two things stick out for me in this picture: how empty the ballpark is and how short Lee’s hair is. He was remarkably consistent, winning 17 each season from 73-75. Would later win 16 with the Expos.

This is true when any local team gets there. Suddenly everyone’s on the bandwagon, but this Red Sox fan is rooting for them hard too. I’m really enjoying watching this gritty team play baseball. One win to finish it.

Man I hate bullpen games and I hate them more in the middle of a playoff race. If Craig Breslow had done his job at the deadline and got a real starting pitcher instead of the entirely ineffective Dustin May, the Red Sox wouldn’t be in this situation.

One of the worst trades ever. Right up there with the infamous Larry Anderson for Jeff Bagwell in 1990. The Red Sox got two months of a mediocre reliever. The Astros got a future Hall of Famer (although to be fair Bagwell was blocked by another guy who went onto be a star: Mo Vaughn).

They were teammates too twice with the Dodgers and the Red Sox.

I suspect that if things go well at the deadline, Fitts will spend the rest of the season in Worcester.
