I wrote an article on LinkedIn about environment / ecosystems and game design.
And itโs both in FRENCH AND ENGLISH! ๐ฑโจ
Yes, from what I experienced, large companies tend to prefer custom engines as they better fit their needs and/or because they were already there before Unreal became that important (e.g Ubisoft's Anvil for open worlds). And also because UE is not free at all when you start selling millions haha
09.12.2025 06:47 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 03- This is a competitive game and yet, there is no pressure, no agression, no bad move. Everything is positive and the goal is just to optimize better than the others, not to make them feel bad. Itโs like a race you run alongside your friends. And I want to capture this nice feeling.
08.12.2025 16:27 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 02- What I call โgameplay purityโ. All the game mechanics are simple and work well together. There is no extra alternate or useless gameplay.
For example, having to much resources allows you to breed more, too many eggs allows you to draw, too many cards allows you to gather more resources. Perfect.
1- The relation between nature and gameplay, of course! The entire game revolves around actual birds, their physical distinctive features, habitats, breeding behaviors, feeding behaviors, โฆ converted in game mechanics!
100% core design philosophy to WSU!

Letโs talk about my favorite board game of all time: Wingspan!
This is an engine-building game by Elisabeth Hardgrave and itโs all about birds! I LOVE this game for 3 main reasons and they are all a huge source of inspiration for What Surrounds Us. ๐

โญHere is my November recap!

Did you know there were indoor sections in my game?
Me neither until last week! ๐

Also, as a game dev I found the gameโs scope really well balanced. It feels reasonable in term of gameplay depth, asset to produce, game length, etc. ๐
If you want a short game that donโt use your brain too much and yet find some hope for a brighter future, itโs a good choice!
Some screenshot of the game Jump The Track with one of its many nice dialogues. It says "Now let's seal our friendship by destroying a state-of-the-art multi-billion dollar engineering masterpiece!", which is, I have to say, an tempting idea
Last week I finished Jump The Track by @seedbyseedgames.bsky.social ! And itโs a really nice game! I loved it!
My favorite part is the character cast: everyone is super endearing and fun! With the nice dialogues it makes the whole game kind of light while carrying a not-so-fun message.

I was studying product design and I was bored.
The design school I was aiming also had a game design course. I applied to both entry exam, got accepted on both, and chose the stupidest but fumiest choice. โจ
They manage to bring a subtle mix of old and new, bringing solid references while innovating, navigating on multiple sub-genres from surf rock to shoegaze and still making their own cohesive sound.
Incredibly refreshing, strongly recommended if you like guitars, drums and those loud instruments.
And I will start with some music, just before the December trend of Spotify wrap hits us (please donโt use Spotify)!
Letโs talk about Coast Arcade, an indie rock band from NZ. They released their first eponym album last month and this is incredibly good. Album of the year, hands down. ๐
From now on I will try to share pieces of media or artists that I like. Some will be shady, some will be mainstream, it doesnโt matter, the point is just to talk about inspiring things.

I don't manage to figure out my favorite SNES game, but it definitely involve this cool green dinosaur. ๐ฆ
SMW for its genius music and level design, Yoshiโs Island for the art direction. Both for never getting old.

17.11.2025 17:11 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I'm disappointed but not shocked to see Blue Prince miss the cut, given that it's English only and many of the judges are outside of the US/UK.
Not much suspense here - Clair Obscur is the fan favorite and has the best narrative (ex-Ubisoft devs go indie), even if there are more interesting games
Hey! Are you interested in games about ecology, broken ecosystems and how to re-balance them?
Because I'm working on a short adventure game about that theme ๐
(currently cooking the reveal stuff!)
I made a video of my process crafting some creatures of our game Alterfaunaโจ
I'm using watercolor and colored pencils, my scanner (aka my best friend), Photoshop and Spine
(sorry for the 1rst part's bad quality, I filmed with my shitty phone, I work at night and the light is horrible)
Thank you! โจ

Hey! Super interested in being part of it!
I'm now working on my first solo game and I'm almost ready to be quite talkative about it ๐
