"The research reveals the unique complexities of being an American Jewish teen," said Kelman. βJewish teens who feel being Jewish is important to them show high levels of wellbeing, but those same teens are also highly sensitive to the challenges of antisemitism."

The research found that teens' Jewish identity heightens their awareness ofβand stress about βthe tensions of our times. The national survey was conducted in Spring 2024 and reflects responses from nearly 2,500 Jewish teens in 49 states, plus Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia.

"The panel was great. It was a very rich conversation about how research does and does not work to shape decision-making in the Jewish community. It raised some really vital issues that need a longer, more focused forum if the kind of social science research that has long played that role is going to continue doing so.β -Ari Y Kelman
The AJS (@jewishstudies.bsky.social) hosted its annual conference in December and Jewish Studies at Stanford was, as always, well-represented. Hereβs Stanford professor of Education and Jewish Studies Ari Y Kelman on his panel, "Putting Jewish Studies to Work?"
