I am definitely guilty of using the word breastfeeding as shorthand to encompass chest feeding/body feeding, although I refer to them as a breastfeeding person rather than woman in conversation and classes

What I read when I see this is “to reduce the need for c-sections, let women (and their babies) die in childbirth.”

A common misconception about birth doulas is that they replace/usurp the role of the partner or emotional support person.

A #BirthDoula works with partners/family members/friends in hopes of allowing them to be a more effective support person during pregnancy/labor/postpartum.

I will be sharing information here about what doulas do, tips and tricks, and lessons I have learned and continue to learn over the 7+ years working in this space and a healthy dose of random thoughts as well.

I work FOR my clients and WITH their providers. As a doula my job is to empower my clients to advocate for themselves and to facilitate conversations between providers and my clients.

I take a non-dogmatic approach to birth, I believe there is no “right way” to birth your baby. My focus is on informed consent, evidence-based information/practice, and empowering clients in the birth process.
