Hyperion by Dan Simmons, especially if I’m allowed to include the sequel, The Fall of Hyperion. Two shockingly different books in tone and style that tell a beautiful and cohesive story.

I’ve always found Legend of Korra frustrating for reasons that aren’t its fault. 1 - I’m comparing it to one of the best series of all time. 2 - Nick refused to commit to it. But when it hits, it’s unassailable. There are moments in Korra that Avatar never would have thought of, let alone attempted.

Woof, I don’t like being reminded that this issue is 36 years old. But a nice pickup at a reasonable price for the first Venom cover.

That’s hyperbolic. If I found a ticket for $30 or less, I’d almost certainly go. But the cheapest available at the truly awful Fiddler’s Green Denver is almost triple that amount, so I’m probably safe from having to make that decision.

I love the albums Throwing Copper and Clumsy, but have no other connection with the bands Live and Our Lady Peace. I actively dislike Collective Soul. So why am I compelled to check resale ticket prices for their show at my least favorite venue? I can’t imagine a price low enough to get me there.

I know that loving both In the Meantime by Spacehog and Punkrocker by Teddybears is not particularly niche for a Xennial, but if James Gunn chooses something by Doomtree, K’Naan or Charly Bliss for his next central needle drop, it’s very possible that he’s actually trying to reach me, specifically.

I’ve been obsessed with Wing’s Dopamine for about a year and. But I’ve just now fallen into the rabbit hole of vocal coaches just being totally melted by their inability to parse or understand what he’s doing
/how he does it. It’s a true delight. In case anyone hasn’t seen the amazing original.

I’d like to introduce Yue (Yoo-way). She’s a little anxious, and just unbelievably thin, but she’s so sweet and wonderful. The shelter listed her as a Shih Tzu mix, but I don’t really see that. My guess is that she’s a classic mutt, with maybe Yorkie and cocker spaniel as the dominant breeds.

I’m finally watching this week’s episode, and while I already agreed with you, DAMN. Denali is too profoundly sexy to be allowed.

One downside to rediscovering my love of reading is that I’ve once again become the sort of person who stays up too late reading. I didn’t intend to read the last 40% of @naominovik.bsky.social’s The Golden Enclaves tonight, but once the climax started coming together, I couldn’t put it down.

“Set in the 20th Century” is such a wildly ambiguous non-category to be on HBO Max that I want to hate it. However “But I’m a Cheerleader” is the first thing listed in there, so I’m obligated to love it.

I picked up a copy of The Buffalo Hunter Hunter today. I don’t really follow printing trends well enough to know for sure, but a book that was released 8 weeks ago already being on its 4th printing (in hardback) seems pretty wild. Good on ya, @sgj.bsky.social.

Hearing Lovefool by The Cardigans on my local “Good Times and Great Oldies” station tonight has really scarred me.

While I’m frustrated to live in a country incapable of learning from its own mistakes, I’m glad that our neighbors to the north are willing to take the lessons that we willfully disregard #elbowsup

Unfortunately, I’ll be out of town for your signing in Boulder, CO next month, but I’m excited to pick up Razzmatazz the next time I’m at a book store, and I’m really looking forward to Anima Rising. Thanks for years of laughs, and I hope to be at the next signing. I haven’t been to one since Noir.

After ~35 years of constant reading, in 2020 that part of my brain shut down. I only finished one novel I hadn’t read previously between then & now. To try to get back into it, I picked up Shakespeare for Squirrels by the compulsively readable @theauthorguy.bsky.social. It worked! A very fun book!

Watched the 1st episode of The Residence tonight after watching the @trixiemattel.bsky.social and @katya-zamo.bsky.social I Like to Watch about it. What a fun show. I love a silly murder mystery in a weird mansion, but I never considered that the White House is kinda the prototypical weird mansion.

I’m a regular person from the middle of America. It’s not like I’ve surrounded myself with exclusively intellectual luminaries. But this particular idiot was too dumb to order movie theater concessions without being guided at every turn. And this was 25 years ago. It’s not like he’s gotten smarter.

The dumbest person I’ve ever met was put in a position where he could crater the world’s economy with one speech, which he promised to do, over and over. And then he did exactly that and a lot of people were shocked That’s… certainly something.
