Ending my week with my oldest mourning the loss of her friend and classmate (and her friends’ teammate) in a senseless crime this morning in South St. Paul. This is one day after my other kiddo had to shelter in place at school. Two weeks after I witnessed the immediate aftermath of Annunciation.

In our district are coming up on homecoming, when it was cut short 4 years ago, and still grappling with the grief of Annunciation. They are also insanely traumatized even before today. I truly don’t think anyone had the full capacity to know what to do.

In this case, two things happened in succession—the incident with the 15 year old, and Edina Police placing the schools in a shelter in place with little or no explanation.

I had a good talk in person with an administrator tonight. There were things that could have been done better. But teachers

Probably was the same shelter in place, but my youngest was in one today too. It’s not our first one, and my kids have been through a shooting too (you can see my oldest fleeing on YT and couldn’t find my son for 45 mins) . Running from the school in this scenario would have been absolutely stupid.
