I mean maybe? But if you never train with people who know the matchup then your counterplay will be underdeveloped.

Also it's worth considering that not everybody's primary goal is winning the tournament. For example I just want to play well and see my friends do well

I think it makes sense to tell people you play often how to beat it so you can work on counterplay

Best part of playing umvc3 has been the long sets. Every time I find an opponent we play 40-60 games before we call it. Literally haven't had this experience online since I played 64

Outplayed means I did a better decision in the moment.
Gap means I demonstrated that I'm better than you by outplaying you.

I understand why it would rub you the wrong way

Gap means you demonstrated a skill gap between you and your opponent. As in "man that 3-0 was straight gap they couldn't even win neutral once"
