This is just one of many reasons I attended my first Long Island DSA meeting today. They're doing wonderful work both within the community and outside it and I look forward to getting involved. Also they have Zoom participation for their in-person meetings, which is awesome!

Then there's Roller Skates by Ruth Sawyer, a book I discovered when I was 7 and have re-read numerous times since, most recently last week. A product of its time but still a delight.

In terms of what books shaped the reader I'd become, definitely The Grey King, A Wrinkle in Time, and The Giver. All books I've loved and re-read, all led me towards more varied and exciting speculative worlds.

Great show! Haven't seen it yet but adore the cast recording. Laugh after laugh, then "Dear Bill" hits you like a ton of emotional bricks. You're lucky to see it now, the original cast is leaving next month.

Aside from being utterly gorgeous, it was Walt's favorite song, so definitely counts.

There's stiff competition, but the 1 tech enshittification emanation I dislike the most is, I think, the near-demise of paying once for something then owning it. Give me a piece of tech with onboard software, give me a game, give me an email client. Charge me once, give a couple of years of support.
