Agree. I like Mezcal a bit more. I'm a seasonal drinker most times. During the periods of the year that Tequila/Mezcal seem warranted, I almost always prefer a rum based drink. I have friends that are the exact opposite. Hopefully, the trade wars don't impnge on our selection too badly.

I, myself, am not a huge fan of Tequila/Mezcal. So, I'm actually on a normal day a lot more likely to have those liqueurs than Tequila. The tequila was left over from a party. And no worries, if I read it, I'd think the same thing.

If you don't like or have Tequila, white rum makes a good but different drink. I've found Puerto Rican rum (e.g., Bicardi) to be particularly good. If you do this, increase the lime to 1/2 oz for balance.

Spritz a coupe glass with 20% saline and chill. In a mixing glass, add the ingredients sans garnish. Stir down the drink till chilled. If using regular lime juice, shake this one briefly. Garnish with salty balls.

With a melon baller, pull some balls from your melon. Dip one side in the salt and fresh cracked pepper. I like a blend of black and white pepper. Kosher salt is best, though coarse pink Himalayan would be good too.

Chill a Nick and Nora, coupe, or Martini glass. In a mixing glass with ice add the gin and lime cordial. Stir down until cold. Retrieve the glass and spritz with saline. Double strain the gimlet into the glass. Slap and squeeze the mint to release aromatics. Garnish and enjoy.

Level matters. I can't think of states that have managed it well holistically. There are certainly localities that have. In the ones familiar to me, outdoor economies play a big role. The deeper problem, though, is how you shrink infrastructure in places without those advantages.

I often think that if we understood how to "contract" the right way, these places would fair much better. Instead, we beat our heads against the wall trying to reassert population-based expansion. We need a "how to be small" blueprint.

Good summation. At a local, rural economic development and governance level, it would be great to understand better how to incorporate these insights at a more granular, contextual subnational level. States and localities have confronted this long before the national slowdown. #governance #rural

Yes, they are cleaner and better conserved, but less wild. For locals, that's a big deal because the primary interest in having the Park is not for the sake of conservation, but rather for economic development and community resilience. End π§΅.
28.07.2025 19:46 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
The reason is that, if you grew up there like I did, these spaces are a lot LESS wild than they were before the fight for, and after, the designation. This gets ignored in arguments around the value of parks and to whom/why they are valuable.
28.07.2025 19:46 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
First, it's an excellent example of the framing that arises from parks being important to local economies, not just for environmentalists or conservationists. Second, this framing is crucial in maintaining future momentum for parks and the recreational economy.
