Two mentions of my work in the NYT in a single week. Not too shabby.

Be peaceful, orderly, and nonviolent. Be tactical, strategic, and organized.
There has never been a more important time to understand nonviolent civil disobedience. Itβs the only way.
I donβt think weβre paranoid enough about the depth and coordination of whatβs happening right now.

You want signed Derf books for Christmas? Easily done! All with title page sketches, too.
Macs Backs Books has them, and does mailorder. The website doesn't list Trashed or The Art of Derf, but trust me, they have them. Just give them a call or drop them an email.

Absolute treat today in class, particularly after yesterdayβs Election Day, as @andrewaydin.bsky.social joined my class to talk March and how the comics medium can be such a powerful force for change! Students and I left fired up and ready to get back to work!

Is there something brewing?
Text that reads: This is a really tough and tumultuous time for race relations in this country. Congressman Lewis, are you worried? Are you hopeful? What do you think are some of the answers to some of the really deep divisions we still see today?
Text that reads: Lewis: In spite of all of the things, the issues, that we may be confronting today, Iβm very hopeful, very optimistic about the future. Thatβs why I want to see people pick up βMarch.β [They will see] we never gave up. We didnβt get lost in a sea of despair. We kept the faith. We kept pushing and pulling. We kept marching. And we made some progress. And when people tell me nothing has changed, I just feel like saying, βCome and walk in my shoes.β Our struggle is a struggle to redeem the soul of America. Itβs not a struggle that lasts for a few days, a few weeks, a few months, or a few years. It is the struggle of a lifetime, more than one lifetime. But I truly believe that one day we will get there, we will arrive. And if we do it right in America, maybe, just maybe, we can serve as a model for the rest of the world.
Back in 2016, I interviewed the late, legendary Congressman John Lewis for @salon.com about his brilliant graphic-memoir series "March," co-written with @natepowell.bsky.social and @andrewaydin.bsky.social, who also joined the interview.
His answer to this question sticks with me.
Food, housing, and healthcare costs are exploding in WNC because Republicans cut programs like this that saved lives and saved money. Iβm running because I know what happens when care ends, and I wonβt stand by while my neighbors are left behind.

Becoming increasingly clear weβre gonna have to build a parallel infrastructure for all the media we really love. The reason all of this is happening under the color of law is hyperconsolidation, dissent being traded straight up for merger approval, or fear of harassment.

Sorry, I get REALLY mad about this, because I have friends whose lives and careers would be in much better places had they not been fleeced by their publishing partners. So many administrative-side folks claim to love the medium but don't golden rule the folks who make it, and who trust them.
