We were still a few days early for the colors… but we found some gorgeous falls! 🌊🌳🍂

The Fossil Footprint Nebula (NGC 1491) located in the constellation Perseus at a distance of 10 Kly. This is a 6 hour SHO exposure rendered using the eye pleasing FORAXX palette where Ha are reds, Oiii are blues, and Sii are darker blues taken 10/03/25. Bull’s eye …

A small waterfall with three side-by-side sections drops to a wide plunge pool before the water continues downstream over a series of small rocks. Beech trees above are in their peak yellow fall color.

The drought in CT hasn’t been as bad as up north, but our fall has been dry so far. Here’s hoping the coming storm changes that without causing too much leaf drop. Here’s a shot from a wetter season back in 2022.

Mountains in reflection are like a kind of Rorschach test. I just see calmness now. When I was a kid, the mountains made me feel uneasy, anxious. They were so big. They represented time. I understand time more now. I'm less afraid of it.

Walls of the cave direct you to a small bright opening in which a cold mountain spring falls to bright turquoise water. Along with Denali Mountain and Bryce Canyon, this is the most majestic place I’ve ever been. My teeth rattling even as I could stand in only waist deep water kept me from fully enjoying it,, but no chance I was missing this just for some discomfort. It seemed to get progressively colder tho so this is about as close as I got. In later days I’ll post a shot looking back thru the caves. The video I took is really the best indicator of the beauty here but I dunno if I can post that here or not. I may try in the comments later today.

In the Samaria Gorge on the island of Crete, Greece, lies a very deep cave with a continual cold spring waterfall. To reach it, you have to swim about 100 meters in 10 degree (C) water. I spent time thinking about hypothermia I was so cold. Nice payoff tho.

Catalpa Tree is TWISTED. Parthenon in the background.

There is a tree in Nashville that I'm pretty sure was pulled up into a tornado when it was a sapling, but it had strong roots and it survived. I visit it every time I'm at Centennial Park. When I first moved here, it was barely taller than me, and now it's an adult!
