I like to imagine that somewhere out there something wonderful happened because what caused my bad travel day made the stars align to put someone else in place at just the right time.
May your tomorrow be brighter!

I'm baa-ack! And torn between "And so it begins" and "This is where the fun begins".

Excellent couple of sessions at IWC open day today. Always encouraging to hear successful writers talk about how they started. And a great "Top 10 tips" for polishing that novel. @irishwriterscentre.bsky.social

Recent new arrivals!
I stumbled upon the Irish Kidlit for Palestine appeal a couple weeks ago and somehow ended up with these arriving in the post :) Both beautifully personalised with notes and art and i can't wait to dig in!

Finished reading this over the weekend. I bought it for a friend due to a staff picks note on the bookshelf. Was totally enthused at when I went to pay... so picked up a library copy :) Worth the enthusiasm and first book in a while I've voraciously "consumed".

I'd say Gen X. We're using it with our cohort - and inflicting its use on our kids who are only using it for family groups and such.

A reminder of John Boyne’s own words and why decent-minded people might not wish to be on a prize list with him. He thinks women who support trans rights are β€œready to pin a handmaiden down while her husband rapes her.” No one’s β€œcancelling” him; we just don’t want to be associated with him.

Where are the indie kids when we need them?

CDC building with red circles marking many bullet holes in the glass office windows

Thanks to RFKJ’s rhetoric, CDC staff got our β€œshots” early this year.

Dark humor aside, live posting our way through this domestic terrorism event at a Federal agency was scary.

180 bullets, an officer lost his life, and workers are traumatized.

Why the fu** isn’t this getting more attention?

Every right to be proud of this! Hopefully they'll fall down the rabbit hole of all the neighbouring books on the shelf once they do finish it :)

As an aspiring writer, I can only imagine how heart breaking this must be for the authors (especially the first timers) to have the incredible achievement of being longlisted, only to be faced with this tough decision. Regardless of whether they stay or withdraw.
