Lots of colorful bathroom stall graffiti messages, such as “Fuck Trump w/a HARD DICK” and “FUK ICE keep our Latina mamis.” Oh, and “Death to Amerikkka.”
Just a few neighborly messages from a women’s restroom stall at the Cancun Airport, where I’m waiting for my flight to ICE infested MSP. Fun world we live in these days…

Super awesome to be en route to one Latin American country while your government is starting a war with another Latin American country.
Definitely makes me feel safe and good about the world.

Can we add “lack of December snow” and “endless windstorms” to the list? I know I know- weather vs climate- but still, it’s all related. This is the most depressing beginning of winter…

100 Notable Small Press Books of 2025
The idea of 100 Notable Small Press Books was born November 2024, after The New York Times’s annual 100 Notable Books list featured eighty-two books from the Big Five publishing houses (Pengu…
Quite chuffed (and apparently British) to see my name and book on this list! (Scroll down almost all the way and you'll find it...). Tons of great-looking books on this list - and we should all be buying all of them for ourselves and for gifts!

a short course in piano tuning
It's Small Business Saturday, so time to do a little self-promotion... My chapbook is available through bookshop.org, or you can go to your local bookstore and ask them to order it (available through Ingram for bookstores). It'd make a great gift for any pianists or prose-poem lovers in your life!

Northern lights in green, yellow and red shining up over a river bed and mountains, with some white human lights below.
Whenever I get to see a good light show I like to try to get my brain to forget all the science I know and just let myself be awed by the unknown.

Screen shot of an email stating that Academia.edu’s AI has “turned your research into an easy to understand analogy” and inviting me to “explore impact hub.” Gross.
What fresh hell is this??? For reference, the “research” this AI has supposedly turned into an analogy is a couple of poems published in a university-linked literary journal. Like, I’m kind of curious to see what kind of “analogy” it made out of my lines… but also, WTF? Not today, Satan.

At least five different older folks said they were so glad to see him here today, that he's being part of history. Which maybe he doesn't totally get the magnitude of yet (though yes, he knows why we're protesting), but it's something... Something I'm not quite sure how to put into words yet.

I don't even know exactly what conclusions to draw from that. I mean, it's kind of sad that he's been protesting this same thing off-and-on basically his whole life. At the same time, I mean, what an education, right?

I want to point out that the kid holding the No Kings sign (which he made before the last No Kings protest), is my 9 (almost 10)-year-old son. He's been doing this since he was not even a year old, when he went with me to the 2016 Women's March.

Unofficial count I heard was 800. I had to leave early to get to a meeting, and there were still people arriving. Wouldn’t be surprised if final tally was 1000.

I can’t help but compare the lack of national coverage this seems to be getting with the excessive coverage of houses falling into the sea in NC’s outer banks. The situation in western AK looks so bad right now. These are people’s homes and whole communities, just totally destroyed.

LIVE: Fairbanks mayor concedes as more than 20 Alaskan communities hold elections
Almost two dozen municipalities and boroughs across Alaska held local elections Tuesday, asking voters to decide on new mayors and propositions on the ballot.
Among all the terrible shit happening in this country, it was so nice to wake up to some positive local (red state!) election results. Palmer and Fairbanks both elected liberal mayors! (I don’t know enough about the other towns’ races/candidates though.)

I found this exact book at a thrift store when my kid was like 5. It was a favorite read for him for quite a while and still sits on his shelf now at almost 10. I also make him watch as many 80s-90s TV shows as he can stand. Trying so hard to make that era live on in my house at least.
