Wow. When I was working chat support, our queue never got over 20 minutes.

Let’s see, let’s say 5 hours…300 minutes, so basically, about a minute/chat opening. They must have a very small team. We would take on up to 6 chats at once, and were expected to complete chats in an average of 8 minutes.

"Let his collection grow naturally, based on what he shows interest in, and your budget. Going this route, you don’t guarantee he starts in the Marvel Universe, but as popular as the MCU is these days, it’s unlikely he steers away from it entirely. And maybe he’ll introduce you to something new!"

"Then, give him a couple of weeks to read everything he got, and then find out what he liked, and why. Then go back to the comic book store, see if you can get the rest of the issues in a storyline that he got only part of, or other issues based on what he showed the most interest in. (5/6)

"Ask him why he chose what he did, and then make a couple of suggestions based on his answers, or ask the person behind the counter for suggestions. In addition to what he gets, pick out a graphic novel that you're interested in. You two can read that together, and talk about it. (4/6)

"Most comic book stores have a dollar bin, or if you’re lucky, a quarter bin. Show that to him, and let him get anything that catches his eye. You may want to glance through the books he’s picking up to make sure there’s nothing inappropriate for him, but otherwise, let him choose. (3/6)

"Find the one that you think has the best atmosphere, employees, and such. You want a place where your son will feel comfortable wandering around. Once you choose a store, give your son a $10.00 or $20.00 bill, and tell him to go nuts, as long as he uses it on comics. (2/6)

The 2nd ep of my podcast was a friend asking how to start his son on Marvel Comics. I gave a few specific options, but I ended the show with my real recommendation which was this:

This makes me wonder: Whose work has been adapted to movies/TV the most? Shakespeare is probably up there. I would guess Austen and Dickens are in the top five. For 20th/21st century authors, I’m guessing Stephen King is the top, with Graham possibly in second.
