There is a paradox regarding Trinity. They participated in the god war, but they are explicitly the god of Trinity City, which did not exist until after the war ended.

There are other similar paradoxes regarding the gods, this one is particularly obvious.

Somehow, mortals never notice.

The three forms strongly resemble traditional kouros, kora and korimo statuary.

Most of Trinity's followers are gender nonbinary and/or work in the city bureaucracy or diplomacy.

Trinity is the eponymous god of Trinity City.

The gods have variable form, usually a human and animal form, but can mix forms. Trinity's forms are a chimera, and a "human" form of 3 outward-facing conjoined bodies, with 3 arms, legs, and faces. Their tree faces are male, female, and agender.

Father Thunder's presence means that the city is caught in a perpetual rainstorm, but the tops of the columns rise above the cloudline most of the time. Most residents live in perpetual gloom.

Other cities have risen around the other sleeping gods.

The gods reside wherever they were when they fell asleep, although prayer can relocate them. Trinity City is built into three massive stone columns and Father Thunder, Wind Weaver, and Trickster each inhabit the top of one pillar. There are exceptions, like Sun Turtle, who swims through the sky.

Through prayer, mortals can influence gods, and many use minor guardian spirits for mundane tasks like locking doors.

The gods are physically present in the world but have been asleep for centuries. No one knows why. Their dreams impose themselves on the world and the minds of their followers. The main reason mortals choose a patron god is to limit how much of the god dream they are exposed to.

There are many tiers of hierarchy among the gods, Father Thunder and Wind Weaver at the top, although their ten siblings are close in power. There descendants mostly are ranked generationally, although not consistently. The weakest gods are guardian spirits.

There are many factions among the gods, the biggest two being those who sided with Wind Weaver during the God War and those who supported Father Thunder. Trickster was the only god who stayed neutral, and who tried to end the war.

The gods in this book are selfish and capricious, and most mortals don't so much worship them as make alliances with the ones they can tolerate.

Trinity City is home to two of the "twelve gods." Father Thunder is the king of the gods, Wind Weaver is the queen. Trickster, the 13th of the twelve also resides in Trinity, as do many lesser gods, including the three-faced eponymous god of the city. Few mortals get to see Sun Turtle pass overhead.

There isn't really a name for the religion in this setting, but there is a generation of gods who are usually called "the twelve gods." However, there are thousands of gods in later generations, as well as mortals who have achieved apotheosis.

Most mortals choose one patron god to...follow.

I just found this and it might be fun. I'm going to use my short novel that I am currently cutting to novella length, Sleeping Gods Lie, since you know, the religion of the setting is pretty in-your-face.

These are elementary and high school level resources, which I don't know how much that counts as academic writing.

Yeah, it's a weird gig, I admit. They are working on educational resources about Korea, and the project is funded by an organization in Korea. But my spouse has worked on many history/social studies textbooks and has been brought to conferences like this to meet with other writers and stakeholders.

Last year, they all got an all-expenses paid trip to Korea, I can't remember if it was to celebrate the completion of their last book or to talk about starting the next one. It wasn't even a promo tour.

I am (right now) a plus one at writing retreat for educators who write text books etc. Their stay, food, and travel expenses are paid for them to be at a beautiful conference centre and discuss a project. When I tell them how publishing works for novelists, they look at me like I'm from the moon.

It surprises out-of-industry people in my life that most writers have to pay for conventions and travel (to things like bookstore readings) themselves. For some events/tours, some publishers will kick in some/all money, for some writers. Lit festivals (distinct from cons) pay honoraria + expenses.

This weekend is the Habitat for Humanity ReStore book sale in Stittsville for a good cause, and this year they've invited local authors. Friday morning from 10 to 12, I'll have some books for sale and to give away, and am happy to sign books or just say hi.
