A softly textured, mixed-media illustration of a chibi-style girl sitting curled up on a beige couch, holding a steaming mug with both hands. She has long dark blue hair, simple round eyes, and wears a white shirt and light pants. The room is calm and cozy, with muted blue walls and sketchy, hand-drawn linework throughout.

Small tangent from my usual work: furry + human simplification practice.

Iโ€™m pushing things way simpler than my normal style on purpose โ€” fewer lines, less realism, more suggestion.

Hopefully it helps me understand where my semi-realism is doing too much.

Day 6 โ€“ Bat-Eared Fox study ๐ŸฆŠ
Front-face focus, grayscale, planes first.
Goal today was ear dominance + proportion control.

Things Iโ€™m actively correcting next: over lining, excessive fur noise, and value hierarchy.

Grayscale digital illustration of a gray wolfโ€™s head facing forward, rendered with five gray values. The face is symmetrically lit with soft highlights on the forehead and muzzle, darker shadow under the cheeks and neck, and visible brush strokes that suggest fur texture without blending.

โ€œGrid showing the step-by-step drawing process of a gray wolf head, progressing from simple geometric construction and facial proportion guides to refined line art, plane-based structure, and finally a grayscale render using limited values. The sequence demonstrates how the form is built up gradually through simplification, line refinement, and controlled shading.

Day 6 โ€“ Gray Wolf study ๐Ÿบ
5 grayscale values, soft brush only.

Planes first, fur second.
Trying to say more with less & let form carry the piece.

Also unrelated and legally unprovable:
I did not download a game...Dragon Traveler
& vanish for a week.

G Wolf, A Wild dog, Doberman, & next Red fox.

Grayscale digital painting of an African wild dogโ€™s head, front-facing. The image shows soft value transitions using limited grayscale tones, with simplified planes defining the ears, forehead stripe, muzzle, and neck fur. The expression is calm and neutral, representing an early Level 1 study focused on form and structure rather than detail.

Process sheet showing multiple stages of drawing an African wild dog head. Includes rough construction shapes, facial guidelines, clean line drawings, plane breakdowns, and early grayscale value passes. The final stage shows a simplified shaded head, illustrating the step-by-step workflow used to build form and structure over several hours.

African wild dog study.

Final image took ~30 minutes & feels like a solid Level 1 entry for me. Process image took ~5 hours & shows all the construction, planes, and value testing underneath.

Learning that clear planes and restraint matter more than overworking.

๐Ÿพ Furry Face Challenge โ€” Day 4 Over โœ๏ธ
Rendering... cries in need to practice more.

Less polish, more learning, we are moving on to a new canine species. ๐ŸŒฑ

๐Ÿพ Side Quest: Core Fundamentals
Revisiting form, light, and value with a 5-step workflow.
Front view already feels deeper and less flat.

Blending and edge control still need alot of work.

Slower pace, stronger foundations toward cute semi-realism โœ๏ธ๐ŸŒฑ

Six canine head sketches arranged in two rows. Top row shows side views progressing from rough, flat outlines to lighter, more confident line weight with improved muzzle break and ear base mass. Bottom row shows front views with the same progression, demonstrating better facial planes, nose thickness, and reduced symmetry.

๐Ÿพ Day 4 / Furry Face Challenge
Canine front + side studies ๐Ÿ•โœ๏ธ

Exploring line weight, soft breaks, and depth to move away from flat shapes.
Slow but real progress while fixing planar compression, muzzle thickness, and ear base mass. Still plenty to improve, but the direction feels right.

Day 3 / Furry Face Challenge
๐Ÿพ
Focus: line weight + breaking symmetry.
Front-view heads, same proportions, more depth through pressure and asymmetry.

Sketch-first, slow progress, learning as I go ๐ŸŒฑ

Day (1-2)/ 50 ๐Ÿพ
Front-facing head practice focused on proportions and structure.

Same base proportions, different animal features.
Workflow: sketch โ†’ proportion edits โ†’ Pixel Persona โ†’ Affinity vectors.

Mixing media to understand form, not chase polish.
Building consistency through repetition ๐ŸŒฑ

A collection of front-facing furry head sketches showing multiple variations of face structure using the same underlying proportions. The studies focus on outline clarity, ear shape changes, muzzle variation, and eye placement, with some sketches lightly rendered to test form.

Front-facing head studies today โœ๏ธ
These are outline-first proportion exercises done primarily in Pixel Persona, with a small amount of rendering to test volume.
Focus for this session:
Front view face proportions
Keeping proportions consistent while changing face structure.

First practice post

This is my basic workflow while building my cozy semi-realistic furry style.

I started these eye studies in Pixel Persona, then recreated and refined them in Affinity Designer.

Focus for this session:
- Eye construction & variation
- Clean shapes over detail

I posted this print by Danial Ryan that I have, and someone got really mad, saying that I was promoting harm toward cats, obviously don't care about animals, animal abuser, etc. etc. They were not joking.
