Apologies to the late George Harrison:

Something in the way he moves
Attracts me like no other lover
Something in the way he woos me

I don't want to leave him now
You know I believe and how ...

Somewhere in his smile, he knows
That I don't need no other lover
Something in his style that shows me

UK elections are won from the centre, not the margins. A Reform v 'Your Party' election would be disastrous.

Some of us voted Labour or LibDem in the last two GEs, because we could see what was happening. In 2019 it was a protest, in 2024 it was out of desperation. I honestly don't know where I will put my X next time ... apart from for Reform or whatever Magic Grandpa's party will be called by then.

'Twas ever thus. In 1949 my mother, born in the Canadian Rockies of British parents and having lived in the UK since infancy, was told her Canadian birth cert didn't entitle her to a UK passport and my grandparents should also have registered her birth at the High Commission in Ottawa! 1/2

Napoleon was First Consul of France by the age of 30.

William Pitt the Younger was Prime Minister at 24, serving almost continually until his death twenty years later - and simultaneously Chancellor of the Exchequer.

Spoons experimented with a queueing system in the Duke of Wessex in Bath some years ago. Two separate ones - one for 'drinks only', one for food orders. As long as people read the signs it worked. But as anyone who has worked in public-facing jobs will tell you - a lot of people don't read signs!

The Goons used to refer to the Hamptons in various ways, based on the Cockney rhyming slang - Hampton Wick. Today the Cotswolds appear to be full of Hamptons of that stripe - so it looks like they're getting another two.

"No MP should get second job" as rules change to affect Dan Norris Delegates at the party's annual conference voted for the ban to be extended to other office holders, such as mayors - meaning Dan Norris will not be able to run again

Labour Party rules now say you can't be an MP and a mayor. Changed in 2024. First person affected was Dan Norris. Who was a shit metro mayor and has now been suspended as an MP. But he did hold both roles for 10 months until his mayoral term expired this year. www.bristolpost.co.uk/news/bristol...

Yep, I'll be 70 in three weeks. Both my grandfathers were on the Western Front and survived, one grandmother was a VAD nurse, a great-uncle died at Jutland aged 20 and my father - a scholarship boy from a council estate in a 'depressed area' - dropped out of university to join the RAF in 1944.
