The Supreme Court today upheld Tennessee's ban on transgender treatment for minors with a 6-3 majority. In @MULawPoll national surveys this year about 70% favor this outcome with about 30% opposed. Independents and Democrats became slightly more opposed in May.

Since December each partisan group has become less likely to say Trump policies will decrease inflation. Majority of Reps still believe but down 21 points since Dec. Inds very dubious. MULawPoll, National May 5-15

Could be, though Nateโ€™s model accounts for partisan lean of each pollster. If Trump quit hurting himself on tariffs I think there could be a rise. If not and if inflation rises then I expect more decline in approval. Inflation remains #1 most important issue.

Consumer confidence fell in May (see earlier post). But note that Trump net approval is up a bit in May. Reps should worry about confidence and Dems should not assume approval will fall continuously.

The Boundaries of Law and Politics | Marquette Today Wisconsinโ€™s 2020 redistricting cycle was long, bitterly contested, and subject to dramatic reversals of fortune. Yet perhaps the most unusual feature of the whole process was how it ended in 2024: wit...

Yes, began recovery from pandemic then high inflation sent it back down. Began rising in summer 2022 after inflation began to fall. Now this.

Consumer sentiment fell for the 5th straight month in UMich data. Look for final May data at end of month to see if lower tariffs with China provide a boost.

I had not seen the vax rate data before, so I was surprised. Also how low rates are in every county, not a blue-red split or urban-rural. And how different we are from other states.

Economist writes โ€œOne of the largest drops is in Wisconsinโ€”no county there has an mmr vaccination rate above 85%. It is among the most permissive states for vaccine exceptions in schools, allowing opt-out for personal-conviction reasons โ€ฆ parents only have to submit a written note.โ€
