"pending" has, in the past, been a good indicator that you're in the pipeline. obviously past performance is no longer a guarantee of future results, but hang in there.

One lesson that has become crystal clear over the last few years is how difficult, maybe impossible, it is to have meaningful discourse when both sides are the bad guy. Maybe it's always been this way.

Delighted to host Traver Hart (MD Anderson Cancer Center), who delivered an engaging seminar on synthetic lethality at #HumanTechnopole. He showed how bridging #CRISPR and predictive modeling can advance design and interpretation of genetic interaction screens and inform new therapeutic strategies.

Adaptive behavior of predatory publisher "editors" - I was just invited to review one or more of a list of five articles, each submitted to different journals. I haven't seen that before.

In my experience, huge increase in knowledge from yr 3 to 4 to 5, especially from PhD students coming straight from undergrad. Lots of conflating issues in the US like yr 1 rotations, requiring a pub, and PIs hanging on to trainees for too long, but 3 years postbac does not seem like enough to me.

I think you answered your own question. You do it because you love it. Because you were born to do this. Because there's nothing better than sifting through your data, and thinking about ways to make it better next time. Because that joy doesn't depend on other people; it comes from within.

We acknowledge that no one has the bandwidth for this, but if it helps:

- Itโ€™s โ€˜voilร ,โ€™ not โ€˜wallah!โ€™
- Itโ€™s โ€˜a lot,โ€™ not โ€˜alot.โ€™
- Itโ€™s โ€˜further ado,โ€™ not โ€˜farther adieu.โ€™
- Itโ€™s โ€˜flesh out,โ€™ not โ€˜flush out.โ€™
- Itโ€™s โ€˜sneak peek,โ€™ not โ€˜sneak peak.โ€™

No worries if not!!!

IN CASE OF FIRE:

1) If someone is on fire, punch them in the face.

2) Cop a feel off the person behind you, as these might be your last minutes on Earth.

3) Squeeze the junk of the person in front of you. It'll slow them down, allowing you to move ahead of them.

4) Exit.

CRISPR as a microbial immune system

In 2003, Mojica wrote the first paper suggesting that CRISPR was an innate microbial immune system. The paper was rejected by a series of high-profile journals, including Nature, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Molecular Microbiology and Nucleic Acids Research, before finally being accepted by Journal of Molecular Evolution in February, 2005.[3][4]
