And this is my student's attempt to figure out who wrote the letter.

A faded newspaper letter from a WWII soldier to his dad saying they don't want care packages or propaganda but a Democracy to return to.

17 yrs ago a student in my local history class found this newspaper reprint of a letter a GI wrote home in #WWII. Recently we reconnected and I asked about the letter, which they still had. Its take on why fight is so prescient in #2025. Worth zooming in for sure.

This really made me smile because I associate the phrase "pissed off" with my mom.

There are moments in these deportation fights when I can just FEEL how pissed off they are that I’m Puerto Rican 😂 they want to threaten me with it so bad 😂

We don't know either. 😔 People are gonna be debating it for decades. Racism clearly played a role but that's obviously not the full story.

I’m not seeing IRL evidence of medias narrative of Dems demoralized. Dismayed by moves like that at Facebook, bracing for mass deportations, being strategic about how they use their energy, etc.

This picture comes to mind. (The soldier, btw, was rejected by the Marines for not being a US citizen.)

Good for you! I've had multiple conversations in the last day about how it's going to be much more of a process to disentangle from Facebook than, say, Twitter as that's become the way to keep open a line of communication with a lot of people that I don't have phone numbers for.
