What actually makes these episodes hold up on a rewatch is seeing pilot Rick having come from hunting Rick Prime and building the citadel. And his distance from Summer tying into how much she reminds him of Diane. And the Cronenberging ep being nbd cuz oops he destroyed Rick Prime’s world oh well.

Like, Summer wouldn’t be as cool if not for Rick underestimating of her in early episodes; Morty’s dissolving moral compass had to start somewhere; making Jerry go from the absolute worst to someone I was legit missing early in this new season.

Constantly fascinating to me how #RickandMorty season 1 manages to feel less interesting than later seasons despite being such a breakout hit, while also still organically having the seeds of the show’s evolution in it.
