@the-downballot.com y’all see this? Indiana won’t redistrict!

When we were in the middle of the recording, after I had established that Bray had recently held two meetings with Vice President JD Vance and one with President Trump, the people pushing redistricting in Indiana, I asked two questions related to the subject. They were not tough questions, and they were asked in a civil tone.

Me: β€œDo you have a position on redistricting?”

Bray: β€œWe have heard the ask, and we are considering it.”

Me: β€œDo you know when a decision will be made?”

Bray: β€œWe have heard the ask, and we are considering it.”

His body language was more telling. He recoiled like he wanted to curl up in a ball. It was clear that he would repeat his canned answer to any follow-up question, so I moved on.

Journalist Jim Shella guest-hosted a podcast interview with Indiana Senate President Pro Tem Rod Bray.

Shella's questions about redistricting were cut from the final interview, which he called "spineless." But he shared them anyway. Bray squirmed mightily. www.ibj.com/articles/jim...

Question: Why did US put big tariffs on India despite major national interest in cultivating a strategic counterweight to China and trying to isolate Russia?

Answer: Because the US president lied that he fixed India-Pakistan and India wouldn’t go along with the lie.

(Seriously, that’s the answer)

I am incredibly proud of my former intern, Jalen Travis, for being drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the NFL Draft. Jalen is a DeLaSalle graduate who did a great job working in my DC office. A true force on the field and just as impressive off it. Congratulations, Jalen!

We Mapped DOGE’s Silicon Valley and Corporate Connections If Elon Musk is America's CEO, DOGE is the Silicon Valley executive branch.

Many on the DOGE team are from Elon Musk’s world in Silicon Valley.

We’ve mapped out a list of people affiliated with DOGE, including creating a searchable table with each member, their corporate history, and the agencies they’ve been connected to.

Trump Bid to Take Over Postal Service Could Threaten Mail Voting Read more here.

The order could allow the Trump administration to make mail voting β€” which was used by tens of millions of voters last year β€” more difficult. Trump has repeatedly said he’d like to end the practice, falsely claiming it allows for widespread fraud. www.democracydocket.com/analysis/tru...

Where do federal funding cuts leave Indiana? β€’ Indiana Capital Chronicle Federal funding cuts coming from Washington could threaten Indiana's finances, especially for Medicaid and education.

Terrific piece by @wdownard.bsky.social for @indianacapitalchronicle.com on effects proposed federal cuts would have on Indiana

They are huge- 44% of Indiana's budget is federal dollars (the 3rd most in the US)

In Indiana we undertax and underspend

The Republican House Budget Resolution's Potential $880 Billion in Medicaid Cuts by Congressional District The Republican House budget resolution would cost congressional districts an average of $2 billion each and could eliminate coverage for 15.9 million people.

The Republicans’ proposed cuts to Medicaid are potentially catastrophic. In Indiana’s 2nd Congressional District 160,764 people (64%) receive Medicaid/CHIP. The loss of $2.01B to the district over the course of 9 years means that 54,000 people will lose health care, food aid, and nursing home care.

Braun signs executive orders to squelch unemployment fraud, help job-seekers β€’ Indiana Capital Chronicle He emphasized that unemployment benefits are temporary while signing orders to combat fraud and personalize work-search requirements.

Indiana already had one of the lowest unemployment benefits in the country. Families can’t live on $400 a week, and Hoosiers who find themselves jobless shouldn’t have an even harder time putting food on the table, paying for rent, and buying medicine.

If you live in Indiana

the combination of SB2, which will arbitrarily cut 28% of medicaid recipients from its rolls

and the newly passed federal House budget, which will require cuts to medicaid

means many many many more people will now be uninsured

this helps none of us

Trump and Musk are taking a chainsaw to the livelihoods of Hoosier workers, including Beth, who worked for the National Park Service and owns a local ice cream shop in Chesterton just blocks from the Indiana Dunes National Park.

It may not be cool or hip in some circles, but we legitimately do need a massive amount of people to run for office.

Flood the school boards, councils, county seats, state legislatures, Congress, etc.

Big changes at the top happen when the ground shifts at the bottom. And that can start now.

Dems concede Republicans β€˜running circles’ around them online as Trump remakes Washington The Democratic response to Trump, one Texas lawmaker said, is β€œtoo slow and too tepid and not meeting the moment.”

To those wringing their hands that I’m on social media too much, this one is for you. Old notions of β€œdecorum” and policing fellow Democrats aren't just ineffective, but in fact a severe miscalculation.
