Because this project will be fully grade separated, it should be built as automated light metro (e.g., Toulouse Metro, Milan M5, Honolulu Skytrain). This can enable:
βMore reliable & often faster service
βMore frequent service
βShorter platforms (& thus cheaper-to-build stations)

Please email Kathy Hochul and tell her this. She will ultimately be making the decision. The union is going to lobby hard against driverless, so the governor needs to hear from New Yorkers that we want better service and lower costs: www.governor.ny.gov/content/gove...

Smithsonian removes Trump from impeachment exhibit in American History Museum
A temporary placard, on display since 2021, described the president's historic impeachments. Officials said the exhibit was restored to an earlier version following a review of legacy content.
Exclusive: The Smithsonianβs National Museum of American History removed references to President Trumpβs two impeachments from an exhibit β an apparent change to its plans to update its collection of artifacts about the historic U.S. proceedings.

Lessons from the forgotten history of Democratic abundance
Moderates and leftists misunderstand the 1990s. That is stopping them from seeing their joint path forward.
This from @henrymjtonks.bsky.social is v good. "Abundance need not be an instrument of Democratic factional competition. Instead, it has the potential to unite the liberal-left together around a vision for how to implement grand Democratic ambitions." hypertext.niskanencenter.org/p/lessons-fr...

my modest disagreement is that i think it is important to signal virtue even if, privately, you are a piece of shit. performing decency is an important part of maintaining the norm that decency is part of a well ordered society.

Financialization is an utterly unhelpful explanation for tackling underinvestment.* At best, it results in pushing on a string. At worst, it exacerbates the problem or harms policy for greasing a capex boom.
* The exception is when describing certain outcomes of investment barriers like NIMBYism!

Because that's what's happening. As Sam
Deutsch documents, congestion pricing is actually looking like a "policy miracle." It's sort of a real-life example of a tax doing what Trump falsely claims taxes on imports (tariffs) will do: produce win-win-win results, with hardly any losers. Traffic is down, so much so that many of those still driving into the city are finding that the extra $9 fee is more than offset by the benefits of faster commutes. Public transit ridership is way up:
