A single tiny mycena mushroom with a cream-colored, umbonate cap and a long, hollow beige stem grows among autumn leaves on a forest floor. There’s a minuscule fungus gnat with long antennae perched upside down on the edge of the cap.

Three pressed ginkgo leaves of various sizes are laid out on a sketchbook. They are fan-shaped with veins radiating out into the leaf blade and have that beautiful autumn deep saffron yellow color.

I pressed some ginkgo leaves I found during a walk a few weeks ago. They’re so pretty! 🍂

Collection of nine closeup photos I took of nature scenes. Most feature the pixie cup lichen with tall light green stalks gradually flaring into goblet-shaped cups growing from a leafy patch on rotting wood. There’s one macro shot of a yellow-green inchworm looking like a mini brachiosaurus.

I love that I have so many of my own nature photo as refs and inspiration for art that I’m making. This way I can avoid all the fake ugly slop that’s invading the net. Good life hack 🌿

Some of Miyamoto's early drawings of Mario for the original Donkey Kong. There are color sprites of Mario walking, Paulina and Donkey Kong, and various sketches.

These drawings are amazing. Miyamoto quote from an interview: “I was a rather analog person and did not know anything about technology. So, I learned how the screen was displayed from an in-house engineer. That's how I started doing pixel art.”

Since I enjoy making physical art lately, I decided to draw pixel characters on 5mm square graph paper. It’s very fun and puzzly, and it made me think of how the Super Mario Bros. sprites were first sketched :)
