Not only am I not over how photos from the 90s look like they're from the 60s, but it is, in fact, getting worse.

My son has announced, as he does every time New Zealand plays rugby on TV in his earshot, that he is actually a Kiwi (he is the most English person I know, but he does have the passport)๐Ÿ‘

Nearly made the mistake of forgetting these before spending an hour on a bus to the Emirates with nine ten year olds. Literally ran home to fetch them ๐Ÿซก #coyg โค๏ธ๐Ÿค

... it was possible to avoid clashes with existing competitions, because besides the NCAA, swimming doesn't have existing months-long multi-nation leagues like rugby.

Notably, this also required a billionaire to make the league operational, and it failed when he couldn't pay wages anymore.

International Swimming League - Wikipedia

"Setting up a 12-team global competition in three months appears unrealistic." I'm sad they neglected to add a dramatic "..." after "appears."

A somewhat similar idea worked briefly in swimming (failed due to Ukrainian funding + war): en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interna...

With that said...

Sweet sixteenth. 27 January 2009 ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง Arrived with two suitcases and a five year visa.

Theyโ€™ll laugh at you, theyโ€™ll call you names, theyโ€™ll say youโ€™ll fail, theyโ€™ll be wrong. Hereโ€™s to ignoring all the conditioning to appease the crabs in the bucket, and choosing your future.

A very messy 24 hours in ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฑ with Bekki and Eyad. We were all coached by my dad, Eyad 15 years later than Bekki and me, and weโ€™d never hung out altogether before. From Syria to Napier, via West Auckland, to an Irish pub in Amsterdam ๐Ÿ˜‚

Absolutely. I mean, I could use a few decades of therapy to undo the trauma of being a young woman in tech in the 2010s, but I'm 95% of the way through the second draft of a manuscript with my literary agent at the moment, and it's beautiful. Life is good. And short. Quit SEO. Write about rugby x ๐Ÿ˜

Shetland here for the most part, so they found the coldest, windiest parts of NZ. Guys, seriously, you coulda moved to the Bay of Islands. Yeah nah, apparently.

I spent 35 years being smug about "Australian convicts" and then learned that he was probably a bit of a live wire, whoever he was ๐Ÿ˜‚

My great grandfather was an immigrant to NZ and a Jones, so we assumed Wales.

Then my journalist uncle found no record of him arriving in NZ, besides rocking up randomly on the west coast and buying a pub, and their best guess was he was Australian. And well dodgy. And using a fake name.

Love it.
