03.02.2026 11:31 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Dodgy Wiska junction box.
New Wiska box, blanking plugs and washers.
6/ This is a bit disturbing. These Wiska boxes are IP67 rated, but the unused membrane ports on the top have either been eaten or rotten! It's all wet inside!
This box is by the pond, halfway to the garage. So, I've got a replacement and some blanking plugs with washers to seal all unused ports.
Consumer Unit labelled.
Galvanised box where four armoured cables meet in the garage for two separate outdoor circuits.
5/ Now I can print extra labels for the Consumer Unit. Yes, I put in an extra RCBO myself, separating two armoured cables into two circuits rather than on one RCBO. Shed/pond for one (16A), garage for the other (new 20A). Both go into a new junction box in the garage. Armoured glands - hard work!
27.01.2026 19:06 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 04/ Just hack the bloody thing with a Dremel and a Stanley knife, solder a PP3 battery lead to the wires, reassemble, and you've got a device which takes either 6x AAA cells or a PP3 cell. Sorted. Common sense prevails.
27.01.2026 18:57 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 03/ Let's just take the damned thing to bits.
Cover off, lift the main PCB a bit, extract the two bits that form the AAA terminals, and the wiring is obvious enough...
2/ And who wants to use the mains adapter if you're working in an awkward place?
But look, it's/almost/ big enough to fit a PP3. A rechargeable PP3 is 8.4V, and I know the device works with 2 rechargeable AAAs and 4 alkalines, so the why the hell wasn't it made for PP3 in the first place?
Dymo 160 Label Maker
1/ Quick thread on a bit of electronics DIY. I've got this Dymo label machine but it's REALLY ANNOYING because it runs on six AAA cells. Yro, bonkers. And it won't take 6 rechargeable AAAs because that's only 7.2V, not 9V.
Here is the battery compartment.
Nice bit of wiring in the garage, sorting out the mess of the armoured cables. Tidying up long overdue. Previous owners were a bit messy. I've used some PVC mini-trunking, and that's still a work in progress.
24.01.2026 17:11 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The stupidity of having an executive president rather than a parliamentary government doesn't really appear to be sinking in for people in the USA. They're not going to change their flawed constitution, ever.
23.01.2026 09:38 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I'm not entirely sure. I'd have to replay it.

22.01.2026 23:51 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Absolutely anybody with a brain would prefer that if given that binary choice, even if the Tories were way down their list of preferences!
22.01.2026 23:48 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0#bbcqt If we don't have a Land Value Tax, there will never be a penalty for brownfield site owners to leave them undeveloped.
Quite simple, really. Brown wasteland, no buildings? No tax. No incentive to build, no penalty not to.
#bbcqt Green Belt is itself a stupid construct that tries to defy 10,000 years of urban development and stop the natural growth of towns and cities. Ridiculous.
22.01.2026 23:42 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0#bbcqt Shame Mrs Yellowjacket is rambling and incoherent as some reasonable points were buried in there.
But, Mrs, you need to pay attention to politics to know who represents what you want for the country. It's on you.
#bbcqt Look folks, like it or not, we vote for a person not a party, and MPs are representatives, not delegates.
Do you want to vote for a party without knowing the person? Do you want politics to be even more party-dominated, or for MPs to be more individualistic?
#bbcqt I started following this hashtag on "that other place" but found the proportion of nasty, racist, Trump-supporting loond is reaching epidemic levels. Yuck.

18.01.2026 13:15 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0Eh? You know the Lib Dems were in coalition with Labour in the first Scottish Parliament long before the Cameron years? And many local councils too?

18.01.2026 10:58 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0NATO is already dead in the water thanks to Trump's antics over Greenland and his insults to many member states.
Denmark should ask the UK and Canada to help undertake Arctic monitoring from Greenland and expel the USA forthwith. There is little point prolonging this. #NAFO #NATO #Greenland
