Partially finished hooked rug pattern of the close up of a deciduous tree. A variety of fibres used. A project from my sketchbook for a mini-class by Lara Wellman.
Another Baker’s Dozen class. This time on how to hook the bark of deciduous trees., by Lara Wellman. I’m modifying these classes. Winnie’s original intent was for everyone to do samples. I feel like that’s a waste of supplies, so I’m creating small to medium sized pieces instead.

More mini-skeins. They’re piling up! Most are mixed fibres (wool, silk, Tencel, bamboo, Angelina), some just wool. All are 10 grams each. Mostly DK weight or heavier. I’m selling to rug hookers. Any idea what I should sell them for?

Based on rug hooking, it includes: proddy, crochet, appliqué, embroidery, beadwork, stumpwork embroidery, and bargello embroidery. Fibres are a mix of commercial, hand dyed and hand spun. Appliqued and embroidered silver maple leaves top right corner…on spot dyed wool. Below that are proddy old fashioned roses done with hand dyed wool fabric. Proddy leaves. Beneath them are 3D beadwork raspberries, and proddy leaves. Beneath that are highbush blueberries with beads on padded appliqué and proddy leaves. Beneath that Swarovski crystal beads nestle in the old fashioned spirea in the lower right corner. Across the bottom, next to thespirea, are old fashioned pansies done with stumpwork embroidery. Beside them are crocheted daffodils with beaded centres. In the lower left corner are beaded red currants with proddy leaves. Moving up the left side are beads representing gooseberries, with proddy leaves. Above them os a lilac bush in bloom. Its flowers of hand dyed, hand spun yarn. Proddy leaves. Above the lilaccis an apple tree with apples hooked in bright red, and proddy leaves. And in the top left corner is a Sugar Maple tree with spot dyed wool fabric for leaves, and veins embroidered on with cotton embroidery floss. The central image of the wall hanging is an appliquéd image of a white two storey farmhouse and a front porch. The railing and columns hooked. Reverse hooking, using plaids and spot dyed wool, forms the window panes. The sky is done in bargello stitch with a commercial cotton yarn.
It’s finished! Heading to a framer next. Thinking a shadow box would be best.
