The entire conservative judicial machine *depends* on conservative state attorney generals.

John Roberts can’t take a case asking to destroy voting rights if a state attorney generals doesn’t bring it.

This is exactly what the entire Dem message should be. Every single Dem should be out there saying this every single day.

A troubling number of people believe the police "are on our side" because they have largely followed the law and orders they've been given about not helping ICE. The police will never be "on our side." Sometimes, they're just reined in.

FYI, Virginians: Today's your last day to register in advance to vote in November's elections. If you miss the deadline, you can still do a same-day voter registration on Nov. 5; from my experience as a poll worker who's also served as a registration clerk, you should budget 15 minutes for that.

Two things I hate about early Best Of lists. First, mid-Oct is too early for Christmas shopping and everyone will forget about this list. Second, lots of Nov & Dec books aren't getting ARCs and don't have final copies ready yet; you can't best of if you're excluding a ton of titles.
